Summary: ooh, a wall was erected between two warring nations . . . In generations, there has never been a time when the wall has been breached without bloodshed, except for when two entirely different people came across – one a baby, 17 years ago, the other a child, seven years ago . . . No one knows how they made it or why they came, but their lives touch and nations will change . . .

Part one: An End

Present Day: 16 June 2007

Mid-jump, his heart gave a double-beat.

A sight – a leg seen, just hinted at, through the leaves.

He propelled himself off the next branch without a pause. He couldn’t miss a step, a second.

Now, I have to-

‘There he is,’ said Kiba, from his right.

Fuck. Naruto closed his eyes. This was the wrong place to do it. They were too close to that camp.

They’d been tracking him for two weeks, he had to be exhausted. Naruto hadn’t wanted them to get this far - he hadn’t thought the guy would make it this far. He almost swore aloud. He’d been a fool again – and now that the others had seen him the scene had to play out.

Did they know how dangerous it was?

‘It’s too close,’ Naruto tried.

‘Yes, it’s near the camp, but he’s almost at the border, too, Naruto. We can’t let him get across with it.’ Even the blond’s ears strained to hear Shino’s voice at the high speed at which they traveled.

Their three sets of eyes flickered up to the treeline. A starling – so Shikamaru had seen him too.

‘We won’t get another chance,’ Kiba urged.

‘All right,’ Naruto said and Shino sped off to the left – gone in less than a breath.

Blue eyes glanced down. Hinata moved below them. Shikamaru, Ino, Neji – they were all converging . . .

Seconds later, as if a shock had run through them, they all stopped.

Naruto heard quiet breathing – here, there, hundreds of metres away in the forest. The one they hunted was no longer running.

‘We’ve got him,’ Kiba breathed, his eyes wide. Each one of them was suddenly wary.

No, not wary – Naruto could almost smell the fear. ‘I’m going,’ he said and didn’t wait for responses.

Branch after branch, trunk after trunk, leaves closed in behind him and the rest waited, as they had planned. He ran into ever more quiet – slowing and slowing, stepping round a boulder in the dark shade of the canopy and stopping in front of Sasuke.

The tall boy stood there, slender, cheeks flushed. His shirt expanded and contracted with his chest. His eyes were sometimes-sure, sometimes skittish.

His muscles were taut – animal fear.

A trapped animal with red eyes.

‘They sent you?’ Sasuke asked, his voice level. A slender arm moved, a hand flicked black hair out of his face. ‘Is that in case it all went wrong?’

Naruto took a step forward as he tried to keep his anger down.

‘You didn’t do it.’

‘I did.’ Sasuke’s gaze was impassive.

Fuck. He couldn’t keep it down. His eyes began to burn – anger beginning to sear away blue. ‘Don’t cross the b-’

Naruto nearly didn’t see him move. Sasuke was just past him – almost away – when Naruto struck out. As he stopped him with an arm across his chest, a hand gripped round his shoulder, nails in Sasuke’s flesh, power echoed out through the trees – a pressure in the head of everyone who felt it.

Red eyes met red eyes.

Naruto breathed in, thinking, fucking expressionless face. The black-haired boy hadn’t cried out. A bead of sweat slid down his pale skin.

Against his fingertips – muscles, tendon - the blond boy felt the first hints of movement. No. Naruto pressed his nails further in. He swung round, slamming Sasuke’s body against the boulder before he could react even to the initial pain.

Naruto stared. He hadn’t done it. Tremors ran through the soil. He had to have lied. He looked into the blood-red eyes. Sasuke couldn’t . . .

Energy rippled out through the ground. The land buckled. Naruto, in the motionless centre, pushed his hand under Sasuke’s shirt, against the skin – a flash of warmth and he almost closed his eyes – where there was a scroll wrapped around a blade. He froze when he touched it.

His expression collapsed. ‘Sasuke.’

He drew out the scroll and stared down at it, reading the markings, reading them again. When he looked up his eyes were blue.

‘Why?’ Anger crept back in, a hurt anger. His face came forward.

Sasuke simply gazed back at him.

Their forehead’s touched. ‘Seven years, Sasuke.’

Naruto could feel the black-haired boy’s heartbeat in the blood and muscle that touched his hand, could feel it in the skin of his face and see it move his chest, his lips.

Blue eyes now looked into dark.

How could he have planned it without even telling me?

Naruto screwed up his face, pained, and breathed in just to smell him.

Damn.

The tension in his body from the chasing and the hate and the worry snapped loose. His muscles relaxed, he leaned closer, still not touching.

Naruto wanted to hit him until he told him why. He wanted Sasuke at least to try to explain.

But Naruto moved, and their lips touched. Sasuke drew back and Naruto kissed him again, until Sasuke’s lips softened and he pushed into it. His tongue moved over the blond boy’s, making him unsteady on his feet.

Naruto parted the black-haired boy’s legs with one of his and pressed against him – the heat and shape of his body. He couldn’t get close enough to it. A pressure spread through him and the warmth, that mouth, that tongue became everything.

Sasuke drew in an unsteady breath and looked at him, half-tense. Naruto pressed harder against him and felt a shudder, saw Sasuke half-close his eyes – and the blond was at his clothes, had them off.

Sasuke stood against the boulder, watching. He was hard.

He looked about to speak but Naruto kissed him. When the blue eyed-boy drew away Sasuke’s lips stayed open, his mouth wet. He sucked in air as Naruto’s hand closed around his penis.

Their gazes locked, level, Naruto bent up one of Sasuke’s legs. He played with the opening until Sasuke curled forward, his head on Naruto’s shoulder, his hand clamped around the blond’s arm.

Naruto pushed inside him, clenched his jaw at the feeling and the pressure. Sasuke straightened, letting out a moan, and their eyes met again.

Naruto moved and they both shook, almost convulsed, not knowing what to do with their bodies. Fingers dug into flesh.

Naruto lifted Sasuke’s other leg, held him, pushed him against the rock and felt Sasuke press off it, slamming into Naruto and watching him through lowered lids.

The blond boy’s hands held the other’s back, his arms, his neck – he tried to pull the body ever closer, his skin sliding against sweat. He heard another moan – saw it in front of him – and sped up.

He thrust into the black-haired boy faster and harder – not caring about gentleness, unable to think, just needing to feel and to make him feel something, do something.

Sasuke’s face contorted – his delicate features screwed up, glistening – he gasped, his space contracted unbearably and Naruto was barely aware of hearing him groan – or had Naruto done that? he didn’t know – his body took over each part of him and he strained for every last bit of energy, for movement.

He felt heat, skin, convulse in front of him – Sasuke. Feeling exploded and he came and he didn’t have to think.

Naruto could sense light again and he still moved, slowly, inside him. He came to and his legs gave way. He sat, with Sasuke’s legs wrapped around him, the black-haired boy’s head next to his, on his shoulder. Naruto brought his arms around the other’s neck, his waist and listened to their breaths, to their rapid, deep heartbeats.

Shit.

The blond was on the verge of shaking. Nothing had changed. He withdrew and lay back tiredly, pulling Sasuke – unresisting – down to the ground with him. He curled around him, his chest to Sasuke’s back, their legs entwined.

Neither spoke.

Their pulses slowed. They lay in warmth. Naruto didn’t want ever to have to do anything else. He moved his face against the black hair. What was Sasuke thinking?

An irrational fear crept into Naruto. Without a thought, he leant up and bit Sasuke’s earlobe. It felt soft.

Sasuke’s expression turned smug. ‘Marking me?’

Naruto’s teeth tore the delicate skin.

The black-haired boy stretched on the ground and grinned. ‘And I almost thought you’d try to stop me from going.’

Of course he’d known about the traps. He’d chosen which fucking one to fall into.

Sasuke’s arm stretched down Naruto’s and pulled it closer against his chest. He raised a thin black eyebrow. ‘It might have been interesting, to see if you could have.’

Naruto wanted to tighten his hold around Sasuke’s chest. He wanted to hit him. Interesting?

‘But you’re thinking of the families in that camp, and the seven people in the forest. And you can’t remember what we did at Granir,’ Sasuke rolled over, looking at him now, ‘but you can guess what’ll happen here, can’t you? You’re predictable.’

Naruto could hardly recognize the person in front of him. He heard movements in the trees – shit – the rest would be there in minutes.

‘We’ve been a while, your friends are coming.’ The dark eyebrow rose again, ‘Some of them will want to play – not everyone puts people above the war, Naruto. Sides are important too.’

‘Fuck you.’

‘Hn. So you’re telling me to go? Does that mean you’d hurt me rather than watch me deal with them?’

‘Go!’

‘Angry? Your eyes are changing.’ Sasuke’s were red too, now. His body language changed, he was wary. ‘I used to think it a pity you couldn’t control it,’ he leant forward and brushed his lips against Naruto’s, kissed his forehead, ‘Now it’s just useful.’

Sasuke dressed and leapt away, laughing quietly. Naruto sat up and put his head in his hands, his eyes on the scroll on the ground in front of him.

He couldn’t risk fighting him here. He really wanted to do whatever it took to bring him back. But if people died . . .

So was he going to sit here as Sasuke left? He didn’t know what to do.

Static crackled around the blond boy.

Keep it back, he told himself.

Above his head, the edges of leaves singed and smoked. Bark and stone slowly blackened in a large rough circle extending from his body.

Keep it back. Keep it back . . .

The forest distorted in his vision – in a heat-wave he couldn’t feel. Steam rose from the soil, which formed spider-web cracks that crawled outwards in the wake of withered plants.

Push it down . . .

But keeping it at bay meant remembering what Sasuke had taught him. His mind wanted to shy away from that.

Naruto closed his eyes, clenched his jaw.

He heard the noise before he knew what he’d done. A deep echo tore through the air, tore through sound, and reverberated painfully in his chest. He felt his eyes shake.

The earth ripped open. The soil split. Trees lurched and fell. A river was broken – the flow hissing and foaming and turning to mist before it could land.

He was almost certain he heard another laugh over the screaming, tearing rock – it had to have come from over the border. Already out of reach.

His heart broke.

Hinata was the first to arrive and see Naruto standing by the boulder. She saw his expression. Her eyes rested on the smear of blood on the rock.

‘Naruto.’ He met her gaze and she sighed.

Shikamaru landed on the grass without saying anything.

‘You got it?’ Kiba blurted out the moment he arrived.

Naruto looked at the worried faces – now joined by Neji and Shino – and nodded. He tossed the scroll to Kiba.

‘And Sasuke?’

‘It was either him or that,’ Naruto lied.

Hinata put a hand on his arm and said, ‘thank you.’

As they headed back they saw that the crack in the earth extended over the border.

They had the scroll. Naruto could sense the relief in the group. The blond, however, felt as if he’d been gutted.

Over the next few weeks Naruto hardly spoke, he hardly slept, he ate almost nothing. He spent every waking moment coming up with a plan.

So . . . an idea for a new fanfic – another au, which will become clearer in the following bits – this time a narusasu mostly, as you may have noticed . . .

The date’s there at the beginning for a reason, I’m not just being arb – will also become clearer in the next bit . . .

Is still in the planning stage, but shouldn’t take too long, in spite of my current plan which seems to go on and on and on . . . :)

Part 12: How does it end?

The sun shone onto the marble tiles of the balcony, which reflected the light brightly. Sasuke’s cigarette end dropped from between his fingers, landing on the carpet as his bare foot lifted and he stepped out of the door.

The world turned white. With each blink colour and shapes returned, his eyes adjusting. The sky. Small, high, moving clouds. Buildings. A black-haired boy.

In front of him, his brother stared. Itachi’s gaze was distant, confused, until his eyes locked onto Sasuke’s. Then the same surety they always had when he looked at his little brother snapped into place.

He’d known. It had been a fucking test.

For the first time in his life, Sasuke knew what he meant to the older boy.

The younger Uchiha could feel his pulse in his ears, against his chest, down his fingers.

With his parents it had been possession. With killing the police, Itachi had simply wanted Sasuke to find him. He’d taken everything but himself out of the boy’s life because he wanted him.

His brother leant against the railing. He’d done it.

Sasuke’s acts never worked on his brother, who’d seen him with Naruto.

Blood ran down his chest.

So the blond had to go, right there – not how Itachi worked. His guard had been down. A test.

And Sasuke had done it. He shook. He stepped forward and lowered his brother to the ground, said nothing.

His brother convulsed and tried to speak. Sasuke wrapped his arms around him and couldn’t look away. He watched Itachi’s eyes close.

Itachi’s guard was never down.

He had to move away the minute his brother was still. He swallowed, shaking, unable to look into the street.

Sasuke’s thoughts raced. What the fuck am I? I killed him. Evil. Ungrateful. And still not good enough.

Itachi’s gun had gone off as well.

He needed to look into the street. He couldn’t move. He needed to stand up. Why was it so quiet?

He’d never have acted differently, but if everything – everything – went today . . .

‘Oi!’ Sasuke’s eyes snapped open at the sound. ‘Sasuke!’

He got to his feet, spun round, searching down the road. The blond haired boy stood there, blood running down both arms now.

‘The bastard kinda missed. Thanks.’

Relief flooded into Sasuke. He stood on the balcony, his back straight, gun in hand, blood down his bare chest and still dripping from his hand.

Naruto stared up at him, stepped back and his face broke into a grin.

The Uchiha looked down.

‘Sasuke?’

Sasuke smiled crookedly.

Naruto’s grin widened.

Sasuke wiped black hair out of his face with the back of his hand. He had a feeling of release, of happiness in spite of the aching pain in his chest. He had no idea what he felt but he felt it intensely. His world was different.

He smiled down at the blond-framed face, threw the gun aside and ran for the stairs as Naruto ran into the hotel. They met half-way up, running into each other – Naruto gasping in pain at the impact.

Sasuke laughed, trying to unclasp Naruto’s arms from around him. ‘Dobe, you’ll hurt yourself.’

‘You think?’ asked Naruto, his face against Sasuke’s chest.

Sasuke gave up and hugged him, squeezing him, forgetting to be gentle until he heard a groan of pain. He released the boy immediately, looking down at him in concern - ‘You’re beautiful’ coming out without thought - kissing him. They pressed into each other, almost falling down the stairs.

‘I feel like hitting you,’ Naruto said. He shook his head. ‘Idiot.’

Sasuke held the boy’s head in his hands, ignoring the searing pain from the wound down his palm. ‘You wouldn’t leave. You’re the fool. He was going to kill you.’

‘So?’ Naruto hugged him painfully again, bit his neck, his arm dripping onto the carpet.

Their eyes widened at the sound of sirens in the street.

‘Shit,’ they said in unison.

Sasuke pressed his face into Naruto’s hair, ‘I really don’t feel like police.’ He breathed in the smell of the boy.

‘I get the feeling they won’t understand,’ Naruto agreed.

They looked at each other – blood-stained and ecstatic.

‘Bandages,’ said Sasuke, still grinning.

‘And then we go wherever we want,’ Naruto finished.

They ducked into a staff only door, found a supplies cupboard, a first aid kit and then a deserted bedroom.

So the ‘wherever we want’ part happened about five hours after they’d cleaned themselves off and stitched each other up. Incidentally, that was the reason they managed to evade the authorities – who only thought of searching the sauna, steam rooms and jacuzzi’s once, during the first hour, when Sasuke and Naruto had still been busy in the bedroom.

Sasuke pushed into the boy and moved as slowly as he could. The blue eyes were locked onto his – he could read everything the boy felt, could see his pupils dilate. He moved his face closer with a slow thrust and felt clean, warm breath against his skin. This feeling of being inside, being close, being everything, kept him on the continual verge of cumming.

The world threatened to disappear and thought returned – it happened again and again with his careful movements – he wanted to prolong it. Naruto’s eyes almost lost focus and the blond drew in a shuddering breath.

The eyes alone drove that tingling, overpowering pressure through Sasuke’s body – every other touch of skin and muscle and heat and sweat and heartbeats intensified it, and drove out the world, and took over his mind.

Naruto leant forward and brushed his lips against Sasuke’s, waited for Sasuke to move into the warmth before he pressed his tongue into the black-haired boy’s mouth.

The Uchiha’s whole mouth became wet, alive with sensation, longing for more when Naruto eventually slid his tongue down his neck.

The blond’s hand moved over Sasuke’s ass, held the top of his thigh, his fingertips over his opening. They began to play with it, around it.

Sasuke let out a gasp, still feeling the kiss on his lips, the tongue that had been over his – all the more so for the air moving out and over his skin. His body shuddered.

Naruto bit into the skin of his shoulder, his neck – mad sensation spreading everywhere. The blond’s fingers moved into him and the Uchiha let out a moan. At the noise, Naruto pushed them further in, and in, continuing.

Sasuke’s breath came fast, his heart hammered in his chest, beating, racing with Naruto’s. He dug his fingers into Naruto’s side. He sped up his movements, thrust in harder and harder and crazily. Every part of his body strained into the feeling and contracted and spasmed and exploded. All he knew is that he thrust faster and faster. At one point he knew Naruto was looking at him again – both of them moved into each other and met intensity, with intensity, with frightful openness, with almost unbearable intimacy.

Naruto’s space contracted, he convulsed again and again and his eyes rolled. Sasuke knew he let out a long, shaking groan, but he didn’t know how, or when, or where anything in the world was except the skin and the eyes and the body he’d clasped his arms around.

And then all he could know was that he needed to breathe, and to collapse and that he felt something very, very warm, something good.

Thought returned. And his head felt clear.

Part 11: Gunshot

The door clicked behind Naruto and relief flooded through Sasuke. The Uchiha squeezed his brother, let him go and dropped onto the bed, sitting for a moment before falling back. He closed his eyes.

His head hurt. He felt around for cigarettes, a lighter.

Naruto had been shocked into actual silence.

He flopped one arm across his eyes as his head began to throb. What did the blond think? Fuck. What did Naruto think?

That was the end of that. Naruto could leave.

That look on his face.

The boy’s stomach tensed as his brother touched it. ‘I’ll see if there’re bandages in the bathroom.’

The boy took a drag and listened to Itachi’s footsteps.

And he did love Itachi. He did. His brother had done everything for him. Sasuke could forgive him everything he’d done . . . He knew it was wrong, but he could, and knew he would even if he weren’t guilty as well.

He dropped the lighter.

So this is what he was going to do. Hopelessness engulfed him for a moment before emotion left. This is what he wanted to do.

His hand stopped with the cigarette halfway to his mouth as he heard a shout from the street below.

‘Sasuke!’ Sasuke breathed out a cloud of smoke and didn’t move. Guilt contracted his chest.

‘You fucking idiot!’ the shout continued. Naruto had obviously recovered his voice. And Sasuke was almost relieved the guy had figured out that last part – it had been staring Sasuke in the face for years.

Itachi walked toward the balcony. Sasuke lifted his head, his eyes following him.

Naruto’s voice got louder. ‘Sasuke! . . . That’s not you! You’re more of an idiot than I am, but that’s still not you! Get out of there!’

Itachi stepped out into the sunlight. He glanced back at Sasuke, his eyes shining, possessive. The black-haired boy fell back on the bed again – whatever his older brother said now couldn’t make it any worse.

‘That’s all! Just get out of that room! Get away from that . . .!’ Naruto paused for a moment, ‘What are you going to do with that, Itachi?’

Sasuke’s eyes shot open. His hand reached above his head, under the pillow.

Rage was clear in Naruto’s voice, ‘Just do it then, you dick! He’ll see! One day he’ll see what you are!’

Sasuke sat. He heard a pistol being cocked. He swung his arm round.

The gunshot echoed up the street. Sasuke heard it countless times. He felt blood pump through his entire body.

It took all of his resolve to stand up, to move.

Part 10: horror

Two weeks later:

A black-haired boy – tall, slender, silent – sat down in a leather armchair in the hotel lobby. His eyes, strangely subdued, or perhaps just tired, followed the boy he’d entered with, who went to the reception desk. He watched without moving, inhaled, and let his head fall back. He looked at the ceiling.

At something in his periphery vision his eyes, his chin, snapped down again. He followed the movements of the same boy, unblinking. The figure approached and stood over him, looking down as the corner of his mouth turned up.

‘Coming? Or have you been glued there?’

Sasuke smiled and stood, turning slightly to pick up his bag. He felt a hand touch his jaw, he straightened, his eyes darting up to his brother’s face. When the hand pulled away, he lifted his bag over a shoulder and followed. Itachi twisted the key around in his hand as they walked.

Itachi’s skin was still the same, his body didn’t feel different. Touch wasn’t different. Sasuke didn’t know why he expected those acts – those two acts – to change that. He pushed the thoughts away.

His brother’s lips were still warm, hard. They sill aroused him.

Sasuke frowned. He was analysing again. He knew what he thought, but it didn’t make him feel anything.

He was silent. He reacted. He reacted as he always had to his brother’s body – heat, madness. Now there was shame overridden.

Sasuke kissed his brother’s neck, his eyes closed in a grimace. His face was smooth by the time he pulled back, was seen. He smiled.

What had changed was that Itachi was more urgent, faster. He pushed in mercilessly, still able to make Sasuke cum, still able to drive him to that point of groaning, of gasping.

He could read his brother’s body, take him in his mouth and know how best to prolong it, push it, drown him in barely controlled feeling. Itachi pressed back against the wall, let out a low breath – his stomach contracting in - and sunk down to kiss Sasuke, attack his clothes.

Sasuke let him. Maybe he’d forget this time.

Arousal came. It always did.

Over the desk, the movement of their bodies took over again. Black hair fell down against his neck, warmth pressed against him – skin and sweat. His mind faded out.

Sasuke’s vision blurred. He gripped skin, dug into it. The world lurched and disappeared.

But then it was over. With the physical sensation gone, he felt nothing – he wanted it again, he wanted any sort of feeling to put off this numbness.

When he stopped gasping he opened his eyes. He closed his mouth.

His heart stopped. Wide blue eyes stared at him from across the room, from the door to the balcony.

‘Found you.’ There was no expression on the blond boy’s face.

‘Naruto.’ Sasuke felt an unbearable pressure in his chest. His brother moved away from him, withdrew. Sasuke pulled his jeans up, his heart suddenly racing.

‘Hm,’ said Itachi, calm. ‘Had he not told you about his part?’

Naruto shook his head in silence.

‘About this?’ Itachi continued.

This was bad. Sasuke had to snap himself out of his shock. Naruto had to leave. Now.

Pulling on every last bit of resolve he had, Sasuke lit a cigarette without his hands shaking. He walked over to his brother, forcing himself to keep his eyes off the blond boy, trying to make it look natural.

The black-haired boy put an arm around Itachi casually. Naruto’s eyes followed the limb.

Itachi cocked his head to the side, just slightly. ‘This is the last person who knows where we are.’

Itachi’s gun was behind him.

Sasuke laughed. He felt as if he’d crack. He moved his hand up his brother’s arm, ‘Trust me, what can this guy do? It’s not worth going even that far.’

There was an utter, innocent, wide-eyed sense of betrayal on Naruto’s part. Sasuke could’ve hit him, the idiot.

The blond boy stood in the middle of the room. ‘You want this?’

‘Yup.’ Sasuke took a drag of a cigarette.

Naruto walked up to him stopping barely a foot away. Sasuke knew he wasn’t going to fight back no matter what the boy did to him. He kept eye contact, barely able to, feeling hopeless.

Itachi spoke. ‘Why so keen to follow?’

Sasuke saw Naruto’s face change, saw anger surge into it. The blue eyes narrowed, turned dark, and the boy swung to the side, shouting, ‘He’s your little brother!’

They fought – Naruto with a frenzied desperation, Itachi dancing round him, landing blows. Eventually Naruto side-stepped Itachi’s punch and hit him so hard the older boy rebounded off the wall. In no time at all he went for the blond boy again. His blow seemed to miss, but Naruto grabbed his shoulder in pain, blood running out between his fingers.

Itachi shoved him against the wall, a hand round his neck, and brought his other arm around towards Naruto’s side.

Sasuke saw the knife held in it.

He was across the room, against his brother’s back, his hand closed around the blade. Sasuke felt it cut into his palm but held it there.

‘Itachi,’ he said softly, almost whispered, his mouth by his brother’s ear, ‘don’t do this. Not again.’ He closed his eyes, spoke into his neck, ‘Not for me.’ He wrapped his arm around his brother’s bare chest. His other arm still stretched down Itachi’s, holding the knife, dripping onto the carpet. The blade was inches from Naruto’s side.

‘You don’t have to.’ He pressed himself against his brother, gently kissed his neck. ‘I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.’ Sasuke’s heart hammered in his chest. Slowly, Itachi drew the knife away from the blond boy. Sasuke’s arm moved with him, the blade twisting into his skin, his grip on it still tight.

When he glanced at Naruto, centimetres away from him, he felt he’d been hit in the stomach. How could eyes look so hurt?

Itachi pulled Sasuke’s head to the side and kissed him in front of the boy. Sasuke didn’t dare look again. He just stepped back, pulling his brother away with him, his hand still gripping the knife. The pain began to register. He ignored it and pulled the blade out of Itachi’s hand.

The younger brother spoke to Itachi, their foreheads touching, ‘He can’t do anything to us. All right?’

Naruto stood against the wall, his hand gripping his upper arm where he’d been cut, blood trickling out of the corner of his mouth, staring at Sasuke’s slender arms wrapped around Itachi.

‘This is what you’re going to do?’ The blond’s voice sounded thick.

Sasuke nodded, feeling tension leave his brother’s body. But the boy didn’t loosen his grip on Itachi. Naruto had to leave.

‘This is why you looked for him?’

‘Yes.’ Just go.

Naruto said nothing else. He nodded once, his eyes almost unseeing, and left.

‘You’re alive.’ Utter shock was evident in Rin’s voice. ‘You’re alive.’ She sat a few feet away from him on the forest floor, seemingly unable to move.

He sat up.

Tears welled up and spilt out of her eyes.

Kakashi was taken to hospital.

His sensei visited, but only with Rin. Or with others.

Kakashi waited. He wasn’t patient. He tracked him, dropped down in a deserted street. The blond turned before he’d even jumped.

The white-haired boy just looked, hesitant, hurt, uncharacteristically hopeful. Long seconds of silence stretched out.

‘You’re too young, Kakashi. It’s not right.’

‘It is.’

‘Sh. It isn’t. I’m sorry.’

‘But . . .’ He stepped forward in front of the man, looked up at him. ‘Didn’t you want to at all?’

‘I did. I really did.’ The man seemed almost to lean forward. He breathed in.

‘I still want to,’ the jounin said.

‘Sh.’ The young man took Kakashi’s hand. Both reacted to the touch. His mouth turned into a slight smile. ‘You’re all right now. Nothing more can happen.’

Kakashi looked down, ‘I’ll get older.’ He spoke haltingly, unused to revealing what he felt. ‘I won’t be fifteen anymore.’ He raised his eyes, upset, pained, his voice catching. ‘Will it be right then?’

‘Sh.’

And I liked the idea of Kakashi actually having flash moments of innocent sweetness – even he was young once (a bit, anyway). Poor boy got his heart broken :(

Not his fault either, who could not fall for that man ? I can just see him being stubbornly proud and upright and ‘moral’ about not doing anything more, even though he wants to.

Part 9: Will Itachi destroy everything?

It was beautiful, it was warm. It heated the entire surface of his skin and left a cool, lingering after-pressure on his tongue. His lips moved toward it again as he pulled away. Blue eyes came into focus. Sasuke squeezed the back of Naruto’s neck, their foreheads touched.

‘It’s not as if I’m going to be long,’ the black-haired boy said. ‘Want anything from the shop?’ He ran his hand into the yellow hair.

Naruto kissed him again.

Damn. Sasuke was aroused every time the blond did that.

He stepped backward through the door and raised an eyebrow. ‘You actually don’t want food?’

Naruto grinned and said, ‘We’ve got noodles still.’ But his gaze remained steady. The guy already knew him too well - Sasuke was sure that couldn’t be a good thing.

The Uchiha walked down the corridor.

The black-haired boy stared out of the opposite window of the metro. High buildings came and went, glass panes glinting blindingly for split seconds in his eyes, as the train he was in sped along raised tracks.

The young face wore no expression. The trip was long – over forty minutes between buildings, above roads, over parks. He sat as he had just after getting on – straight, unmoving, unseeing.

No one sat near him. There was hardly another person on the train.

Half an hour in, he doubled over slowly – his arms crossed over his knees, his head resting on them, his eyes still open.

He’d lied.

One little window had popped up on his computer the day before – and he could work out where Itachi was. The minute he knew, he knew he’d decided not to tell Naruto.

The blond didn’t know where he was. Sasuke didn’t want to drag him into finishing this.

Sasuke couldn’t speak to him about this and he wouldn’t do this with Naruto.

He had to deal with it and then go back. If he deserved to.

He decided acting on his own was the loneliest feeling.

Sasuke waited. And watched his brother walk across the hotel lobby. The younger Uchiha held a gun – another thing he hadn’t told Naruto about.

Itachi sat down across from him, at his table.

Sasuke didn’t cock the gun. Under the table, his fingers shook.

His older brother looked at him, waited. His gaze was calm.

Sasuke stared. How could his brother not be mad? Sasuke wanted to rant, to kill him, to find out why. He moved his thumb up the gun.

‘“Do anything, say anything, lie.,”’ Itachi began quoting, ‘“Just don’t get sent away.”’

The younger brother closed his eyes, ‘I was fourteen, Itachi, when you first slept with me. How could y-?’

‘Those were your words,’ Itachi overrode him. ‘You remember?’

Sasuke nodded, his throat tight. He felt sick. Mom and dad.

‘You wanted us to stay together,’ Itachi continued.

Had it been his fault? ‘We could’ve done something else,’ Sasuke said weakly. ‘You didn’t have to . . .’

‘They were going to lock me up. They knew, Sasuke. It sickened them.’

Sasuke’s stomach twisted, turned to stone. They’d known before they died. As they died? ‘You didn’t have to do that . . .’

‘You were the first person I loved. I thought it was the same for you.’

His throat hurt. ‘It was.’

‘I was the only person who loved you. Mom didn’t,’ Itachi spoke slowly, each word emphasised, driven home, ‘Dad didn’t. It hurt you so much to see that. I know you. I want you. Would anyone else? That blond boy can’t, look at how young he is, what can he know? He’d leave if he knew what you’ve done. You haven’t told him about us. Have you?’

Sasuke glared, but saw nothing but the unwavering question in his brother’s stare. He shook his head silently.

‘You know why you haven’t told him. You know why you haven’t told him where you are, where I am.’

Sasuke closed his eyes.

‘No one else will ever understand. You know we share the guilt.’ He leant forward. ‘You still want me. You deserve me. I want you even though you’re an accomplice to murder. Who else knows that about you? Look at me.’

Sasuke’s eyes snapped open. He was scared, he didn’t know his head. The gun dropped out of his hands.

‘You don’t want to spit it back at me. Forget what the psychologists say, forget the doctors.’ He stood and walked toward Sasuke. ‘Who’s done that to be with you? I hated doing what you asked. I’ve hated living like this, but for you . . . all for you.’ The younger brother stayed frozen, almost hypnotised, crushed by each word.

What you asked.

Itachi brought Sasuke’s chin up, brought his face close, kept his lips less than an inch away from his brother’s.

For those of you who don’t know – it’s the arc which happens between part 1 and Shippuden – that means that if you’re watching on cartoon network etc. or buying the translated volumes (not entirely sure about this last one), then you haven’t reached it yet – isn’t a major spoiler to do with anything epically important to the story, but just thought I’d let you know . . .

Part 4: Emergency action continues for . . . um, well . . . the life of the boy . . . !

He shook as his sensei led him to the river. Giddiness was definitely a new feeling. They got in. Minute after minute, neither said a word.

Kakashi felt a charka flow. The bruised muscles were being healed. He looked up when it stopped.

The man’s expression was grim. ‘I’m sorry. That wasn’t right.’

Kakashi’s eyes narrowed. He was still nervous beyond belief, but the world was once again filled with silly people. They looked at each other over the water.

‘Do we have to carry on?’

‘Yes,’ replied the man after a pause.

There was challenge in both of their gazes.

What did he mean it wasn’t right?

He moved closer to the man, frowning.

His sensei gathered his resolve and said, ‘It wasn’t necessary.’

The blond smiled self-depreciatingly. That’s all it took – Kakashi was aroused again.

He brought his hand up through the surface of the water, locked their gazes and lowered his mask. The man seemed mesmerized.

‘But you did it.’ Kakashi reached out.

The blond gave a warning glance.

Kakashi ran his hand up his leg, found him hard. The young jounin let out a breath, looking up at his sensei.

The man kissed him.

For a moment, nothing but their mouths, their tongues, their lips moved.

Then the man held Kakashi’s back, his waist, his leg. Their bodies pressed together. A hand held Kakashi’s thigh – he wrapped both legs around the body in front of him, his arms already round the man’s back and neck.

His sensei opened his eyes. Blue. He lifted them out of the water – turned and put Kakashi on the bank of the river.

He licked the length of Kakashi’s penis, up his stomach – pressing the silver-haired boy’s back to the ground as he went – up his chest, over a nipple, bit into his neck and heard the jounin exhale.

Their lips touched again, their tongues – mouths wet – and the man bent Kakashi’s leg up. He pushed inside, moving over him, still kissing, stopping when his student bit down on his lip.

They looked at each other.

Then Kakashi moved into it, taking him further in.

The blond gave another thrust, took Kakashi’s wrist to above his head, pinned it to the ground, both their arms stretched out.

Another thrust.

The jounin leant up to brush their lips – again a slow, reaching push, careful – Kakashi kissed him and scratched into the man’s lower back.

The man moved faster, moving both of them, pressing them into the bank.

Kakashi’s eyes closed at the harder movements, but within moments his eyes and mouth opened. His sensei watched him, but he gave himself completely to the feeling.

They were both breathing hard. He looked into the blue eyes for as long as he could. He had never felt that exposed – never so controlled by his body. His eyes rolled closed and he gasped as sensation exploded inside him, burst along his skin. It contracted every part of him, squeezed out thought.

Everything was heat and movement and exploding, mind-altering darkness.

They rested. The warm, wet body lay on top of his, in his. Kakashi could feel the man’s heart beating against his chest.

They carried on through the night. Healing, using their last reserves of energy. All reservations went. Everything was crazy exploration – reaching, tiring themselves out in long, uncontrollable orgasms – collapsing, touching, sucking in air – arousing each other again and again and again.

Kakashi had never felt such a change in his head.

Both were exhausted, unmoving, sweat-soaked, close, breathing into each other, intertwined, by the time the sun began to rise and the boy sunk into sleep.

Part 8: First sight of Itachi!

Four days later, Sasuke sat in a café, trying to calm his thoughts. He was going to see Itachi for the first time since before he saw his parents on the kitchen floor.

The boy’s face turned grim and he shook his head, trying to clear the image. White and red and stillness.

But Itachi wouldn’t see him.

He knew he couldn’t handle that now. Christ.

All he had to do was wait and see if he walked past, see that he was here.

That’s all, he told himself for the umpteenth time.

They had to know for certain if he was in this area of the city. They’d heard reports, they’d had people looking, but they needed to know for sure. So Naruto was out in the busy street down the road, watching. Sasuke was tucked away in the back of a café, watching the second set of roads. All the transport in this area had to come through the two areas they covered. If their information was correct, they’d see him today.

A waiter came, he ordered coffee. While Sasuke looked at the street the cup was set down next to him and the man moved off again. The boy reached his arm out, picked up the mug . . .

Sasuke held his arm stretched out in the air, frozen. His eyes widened – shock, a touch of fear.

Someone stood behind him.

He heard movement, material brushing against itself. He felt warmth by his ear, felt breath. Shit.

The word was whispered so close it sent shivers down the left side of his body. ‘Sasuke.’

Fuck. How long had he been there?

He responded without thought, staring forward, ‘Oni-san.’

The boy felt a finger slip into the neck of his shirt. Tiny hairs on the back of his neck rose at the touch – lingering, invasive. Sasuke closed his eyes, unable to move.

‘Well done,’ his brother continued. He scratched his finger up the boy’s neck, to his ear, down the line of his jaw, up to his lips. ‘But you won’t be able to find me again.’

The finger was pulled away. The boy felt the coffee mug slip out of his hand. It shattered on the tiles – hot liquid and sharp pieces flying.

Sasuke could breathe again.

People stared. A waiter hurried over, began to clean.

The boy turned. There was no-one behind him.

Fuck.

He’d gone out the back – the alleyway, the small park. Sasuke got up in a daze. They’d lose him.

He ran out the back of the café into the small alley-like cobbled streets. The road split into three. He stopped, his head swinging between them. He was panicking, not thinking straight. His cheeks were flushed.

Sasuke heard only one footstep, the closest, and Itachi was against his body - pressed against him, behind him. The man pulled Sasuke closer with a hand on his stomach, kissed the side of his neck. The younger boy’s heart beat faster and faster and faster.

The hand moved down, pressed into his pants, found his erection.

Sasuke pulled the hand out, hit it away. He stepped forward but his brother grabbed his wrist, flipped him around, slammed him against a bare tree trunk. Itachi held both arms painfully. Sasuke looked up into his face and stilled, frowning, his expression pained, confused.

The older brother stepped forward, met Sasuke’s body, feeling the warmth, the short breaths. He brought his face close, preventing all struggle by locking their gazes. Their lips touched and Itachi kissed him roughly, his tongue hard.

Sasuke groaned and Itachi pushed against him harder.

Voices could be heard down a street.

Itachi whispered, moving aside strands of black hair to speak into the boy’s ear. ‘I want to cum inside you.’

Sasuke stared ahead, expressionless, unresponding.

Itachi pulled his brother into the park, into bushes, against a tree. He fumbled with his own pants, ripped off his brother’s, tore his shirt open, off.

Sasuke felt exposed – his brother’s gaze was cold, devouring. Itachi, ran his hands over his brother’s body – his thighs, his stomach, his chest, his penis. Unthinking, responding habitually, physically, Sasuke leaned into it.

Itachi turned him round, shoved himself inside with a groan.

Sasuke let out a short breath but his brother only moved faster, urgently, moving them both, carrying on and on. He didn’t have control, it seemed animal. And finally he sped up even more, moaned, spasmed, landed against the boy, breathing hard, breathing into his neck.

‘Your friend called the police.’

Sasuke’s mind leapt. Naruto. His chest contracted.

Sasuke heard sirens. He turned around and watched Itachi get dressed and leave.

The black-haired boy slid down the rough bark of the tree, sitting, staring ahead, feeling empty, sore, unfeeling.

Sasuke opened the hotel room door and Naruto rushed to him, stopping a few feet away. ‘You saw him.’

‘We spoke.’

Naruto took in his expression, blue eyes tense with worry. ‘Jesus, he messed you up.’

Sasuke walked past him.

‘What did he say?’

Sasuke shook his head, black strands of hair obscuring his eyes, ‘I’m going to sleep.’ He closed the door behind him.

Sasuke couldn’t sleep. He needed cigarettes. He hadn’t for over a week, but now he tore through his bag until he found a pack.

He needed a shower. He needed to be able to think. What had happened?

He couldn’t face Naruto. He paced - opened the windows – sat – stood - lit another cigarette - closed the windows - dropped to the floor against a wall and stared at nothing, his arm resting on a knee, the cigarette forgotten between two fingers.

In the early hours of the morning he could no longer stand the room, he walked out into the lounge. Naruto came in from the corridor.

Sasuke frowned. ‘Have you slept at all?’

Naruto shook his head. He sat down on the couch next to Sasuke, facing him. ‘The police found nothing.’

Sasuke didn’t care, he wanted nothing more than to sink into Naruto, to fall asleep next to him, to forget everything else. The boy was unusually good at making him forget things.

Sasuke’s frown deepened. But he couldn’t do that, wouldn’t let himself. He felt foul. He shouldn’t touch the boy. They remained apart, Naruto keeping a respectful distance and Sasuke cringing, wanting to cry, wishing his head wasn’t going down the paths it was.

‘I spoke to practically every bloody person in his hotel,’ Naruto continued, ‘one porter was asked for a number – I called the number and found out how he could have gotten out of the area – three possible organisations have routes – only one was used yesterday evening. I know where he’s gone.’

Sasuke stared. What the blond said registered. He should use that. He should end it. He needed to kill Itachi. The apathy was back. He felt selfish.

‘I also found out there were two policemen trailing us. They’re both dead,’ Naruto frowned in concern. ‘He probably did it.’

Sasuke closed his eyes, adding it to his guilt, always aware of how he’d actually felt towards his brother – that first, instinctive feeling the day before.

Part 7: Travelling, travelling . . .

Sasuke woke up with Naruto chewing on his ear. He was almost used to the movement of the train.

‘Hungry?’ he asked dryly.

Naruto brushed the earlobe with his lips, his tongue, sending shivers all the way down his body. He reached his arm around the boy.

‘Don’t be sarcastic. Seems you like it.’

Sasuke’s eyes rolled back and his lids closed. He realised Naruto was going to push inside him. The length of the boy’s body pushed against him, driving him crazy even before he was inside. Then he filled him almost painfully.

The boy moved slowly at first, groaning at the new feeling, pushing so deeply into him.

Sasuke’s vision blurred, his body reacting without thought. As the blond boy sped up Sasuke almost went mad. The world left. A spasming darkness with nothing but that one feeling enveloped him. He heard a long shuddering gasp and realised it came from his own mouth. His body was warm and sweat-covered and now still.

‘G’morning.’

‘Morning,’ Sasuke replied.

‘Geez, I’m hungry.’

They ventured out of their cabin for food. Naruto didn’t notice people staring. They were all over each other – arms intertwining, touch constantly electric, constantly close. Naruto didn’t notice the looks and Sasuke didn’t care about them.

Kisses were amazing, made them unsteady on their feet.

Naruto ate enough for about five people.

The dining carriage had a noodle bar.

They stayed on the large couches they’d eaten at and carried on talking. The morning became mid-day and they ordered more food.

‘You wanted me at school?’ Naruto exclaimed incredulously, frowning.

Sasuke nodded.

‘But you . . .’

‘Slept with everyone else, I know,’ he’d put his head in his hands while speaking and looked up with a self-depreciating smile, a grimace. ‘So?’

Naruto laughed. ‘That’s kinda . . .’

‘Messed up.’

Naruto’s foot worked its way up Sasuke’s leg. Sasuke pushed it down.

‘What?’ Naruto asked innocently.

‘It’s very visible.’

‘No it’s not. You can’t tell what I’m doing to myself right now, can you?’ Naruto lifted his eyebrows. ‘Can you?’

Christ, thought Sasuke. Bloody hell.

Naruto got up, saying, ‘I’m going to the bathroom.’

The blond boy swung the door closed behind him but didn’t hear it click. A hand covered his eyes. Another pushed into his pants, into his ass.

‘You’re going to drive me crazy,’ Sasuke said from behind him. Naruto bit his lip as the fingers went in, and in, and in. Sasuke pressed against him, pushing him against the drawers, the sink. The hand withdrew and pulled down his pants roughly. Sasuke parted his cheeks, pushed into him. The free hand scratched up his chest, pinched his nipple, tore down to his penis. Naruto convulsed. Sasuke moved faster. They stayed like that, moving always faster – shaking, scratching, pressing, until they climaxed and, leaning forward, toward the mirror, arms holding them up at first, dripping, sweating onto each other, they intertwined their arms again, across Naruto’s chest.

Sasuke opened his eyes as the cabin door rolled open. He saw Naruto standing in the doorway with two trays and smiled. He rolled over, one lanky, muscled arm pulling the duvet over with him.

Naruto sat on the bed. ‘We’ll arrive in a few hours. I got breakfast.’

Sasuke poked his head out and eyed the heavily-laden trays with suspicion. ‘I don’t eat breakfast.’

‘I know. I got you coffee.’

Sasuke moved his head onto the boy’s lap. Naruto began to move his hand – his fingers – over the boy’s neck, from the skin to the hair, the skin to the hair.

Sasuke curled up and didn’t move. He didn’t want to. And he didn’t know if he could. How much energy did the boy have?

He supposed the sheer amount of food the blond seemed able to consume explained that.

Sasuke let his coffee get cold. He didn’t want to stop the moving touch. He smiled. He liked the feeling of warmth around him.

Hatake Kakashi moved down the train corridor. He wondered what he’d find.

Irresponsible brats, he thought. Not a word. Well, the blond had emailed Iruka, but nothing to do with their whereabouts, so the man still worried.

The Uzumaki kid always had a rough time. So did the Uchiha for that matter, whichever dimension Kakashi saw them in.

It was high time they were dragged back to school, or to hospital. Kakashi grimaced at the memory of realising they’d snuck out that night. He was not a pleased man.

The professor found their door closed so he slipped into the next cabin, out the window and moved along the side of the train.

Sasuke had not been well, hadn’t been entirely sane. What kind of an idiot helped someone like that leave professional care?

Perhaps they should be separated? Everyone had told Iruka to leave a kid who’d been messed up that much alone. Admittedly, Kakashi hadn’t, but now he was messing around with unstable students.

Naruto came into view through the window, a croissant in one hand and – oh, there was the boy – the back of Sasuke’s neck in the other.

The Uchiha was wrapped up in blankets. He was curled up. He was sleepy. He appeared, for all intents and purposes, to be snuggling.

For a moment, Kakashi didn’t react. Then the corner of his mouth curled up. Sasuke was smiling. He finally looked young. The arm which he slid around Naruto’s lower back moved hesitantly, slowly, gently.

That Kakashi was fine with leaving alone.

Then they stopped speaking,

They listened to each other’s breathing. Neither said anything.

His sensei’s arm was around Kakashi’s chest. It had stopped the boy falling forward.

Kakashi didn’t know what to do. He swallowed and leant back. The man felt warm through his clothes. The boy’s eyes closed. Above those, the eyes of the man closed too.

Kakashi wanted to hold the arm to his chest, but it moved away and he did nothing. His legs still felt weak. The man removed his fingers.

Time passed.

With the hand gone, Kakashi leant further back. His eyes opened. There was a hard warmth against him.

The boy’s hand found his sensei’s wrist, then his hand.

The boy, embarrassed, was erect again.

His cheeks still burned. He has to know what that means. What does he think? But if the man was as well . . .

The blond held Kakashi’s penis again. He began to move along it.

The boy loosened his sensei’s pants.

‘Kakashi.’

The jounin’s hand froze for a moment, and then carried on. His hand moved against the man’s skin.

‘This-’ he moved the boy’s hand away, but Kakashi brought the other one round. It closed around the shaft.

He heard a sharp intake of breath behind him.

‘No.’

The boy moved his hand along it, squeezing the head, sliding down again.

His skin prickled sharply with nerves.

Before he knew it he’d been guided forward. He was against a tree. The fingers were inside again – two, three. They withdrew quickly. The boy bit his lip, his eyes closed, his hand clasped around his sensei’s, as the man pushed inside him, letting out a groan.

He was filled to the point of pain. The man moved slowly at first, pressing him against the bark, their bodies meeting. Kakashi refused to let out a sound, he held the man’s leg, scratching into it.

A contracting, crazy feeling had spread everywhere. He didn’t know what to do.

The man sped up, pushing further in.

A moment later Kakashi gasped. He couldn’t hold back the vocalization. His mouth opened, wet. His muscles contracted as a pressure took over everything he felt, took over what he thought. What was happening inside him was insane. How did the man do this? He’d never felt like this.

Another thrust and the feeling concentrated. Both of them groaned. The man didn’t stop moving inside him, driving him crazy. Faster and faster, Kakashi now pushing against him, meeting his movements.

The boy’s vision blurred, he didn’t notice it go. He didn’t know if he was thinking or not, he just dissipated into the intense, intense sensation he had no control over.

The man shuddered and slowed down and stopped, breathing hard.

The forest was quiet.

Part 2: Emergency Action

At first they talked. His sensei told him what he was going to do.

The man reached round the boy, his arms, his hands.

Kakashi didn’t move. His brain mumbled through the unfamiliar feelings of shock and shyness and embarrassment. He was already hard when his sensei untied the cord of his pants.

The white-haired jounin had been pragmatic from a very young age. He knew his biggest problem would be embarrassment. He wanted to know what the man thought.

The man’s hand closed around his penis. Kakashi’s still didn’t move.

It was difficult to know what his sensei thought. Firstly, he’s said why he was doing it.

The hand moved along the shaft, to the head, down again.

Secondly, Kakashi was finding it difficult to think.

Touch was crazy.

The man’s hand moved steadily.

If he didn’t have the control over his body that he did, he’d be shaking. His sensei could tell.

‘You’re all right with this?’

‘Yes.’

Kakashi’s eye’s widened. His sensei’s hand pushed against his opening, played with it. He almost came.

The man slowed. ‘Relax.’

A finger went inside. The student closed his eyes.

When had the man found oil?

The finger came out. Two pushed in, moved, sped up.

The jounin gasped. Tingles, pressure, intensity had taken over his body. What the hell had happened? His legs were weak. The fingers pushed in. It happened again. And again. And again. The hand sped up.

Kakashi let out a groan. He didn’t lose control like this. He fought against it, wary. His body urged it on – pushed him through it mercilessly, urging and craving and fighting thought.

Moments later he remembered where he was. And whose arm reached round him. His gasps turned into normal breaths, turned into quiet breaths.

Part 6: Tension finally breaks!

Early the next morning, a key was shoved into the lock on Naruto’s door. The blond boy came through without closing it behind him. He grabbed his bag on the way to the cupboard and began shoving his clothes in.

Sasuke sat up on the couch. ‘You going?’

Naruto was already heading to the door. ‘Yup.’ His response was curt.

Sasuke went after him, picking up a shirt and slipping his arms through hastily.

‘Naruto,’ he said in the hallway outside, his hands in his pockets.

The boy spun on his heel, blond hair flying, his eyes fuming and guarded.

Sasuke lifted his shoulders, awkward. ‘Thanks.’

There was a moment of silence and Naruto’s eyes changed. He moved forward and Sasuke almost stepped back, not wanting to fight.

Naruto didn’t touch the black-haired boy, but he brought his lips up. It was so unexpected that Sasuke didn’t think of it as a kiss until there was a tingling, gently-probing tongue inside his mouth.

Naruto turned around again, scared. Through his tan, his cheeks were flushed. His heart raced. He walked away as Sasuke stood motionless, feeling a touch still on his skin, over his tongue.

Sasuke blinked.

Within three steps his hand was on Naruto’s shoulder. He pulled him round and stopped at the sight of hesitant blue eyes, anger. They were close.

Before he could give himself another second to think, Sasuke arched his neck down, covering the small distance between them. Their tongues were warm, soft, enveloping. He knew his arm had moved when he held the back of the boy’s neck.

Naruto’s hands reached into Sasuke’s open shirt, held his lower back, pulled him closer, pressed him against his chest, his stomach, his legs.

They moved together, tried to step and almost stumbled. Naruto’s bag fell off his shoulder, his back hit the wall.

His legs parted slightly as Sasuke pressed one of his between them, as he felt the warm pressure of the other’s pelvis.

Naruto’s hands stretched, slid up his back, pulled him closer.

Sasuke’s still held the boy’s neck – gentle and urgent. He lifted his other hand, brought his open palm against Naruto’s chest. Through the t-shirt his fingers brushed the boy’s nipple. He heard – and felt – a half-groan through the kiss.

Only then did Sasuke pull his mouth away. Their lips separated, their tongues lingered until their sharp intakes of breath made them look at each other.

Naruto’s lips remained parted. Sasuke gave a flicker of a smile. He lowered his eyes.

Christ. When last had he been nervous? Shy? His heart was going to hammer out of his chest. A warm, spasming pressure spread through him.

What must he think?

He took his hand from Naruto’s chest. They both froze, stiffening.

Sasuke stepped back. But Naruto pushed off the wall, lifted his tall body and kissed him – forcefully and steadily more urgent.

Neither knew what to do with their bodies. They pressed against each other almost painfully, the wall of the passageway keeping them up as Sasuke stumbled backwards without feeling himself land against it.

Both felt each other, crazy with nerves, with this newness. Their hands began to move everywhere – almost not daring, shaking.

They heard footsteps on the stairs and froze. Sasuke took his mouth away from Naruto’s neck and leant back.

They looked at each other. Together, they smiled, momentarily sheepish.

The footsteps got closer. Neither felt like seeing anyone else.

Sasuke placed a pale hand on the tanned one which was halfway into his jeans. His skin felt . . . The feeling drove through him again.

‘Should we . . .?’ Sasuke began. Naruto was already pulling him back toward the room.

Just inside, Sasuke kicked the door shut behind him as Naruto attacked his shirt. He lifted the orange t-shirt over the boy’s head. He dropped it and stepped over it – so they made fumbling progress into the room. He ran his tongue down the boy’s chest – amazed at the freedom to do it.

Naruto’s hands went to Sasuke’s pants, to the button, pausing. Compulsive feelings urged them through shyness. They stripped each other, exploring, continually looking back to each other’s eyes, trying to gauge a reaction, not speaking, silently and gesturelessly urging each other on.

Naruto’s legs hit the side of the bed and he sat – or rather fell – onto it. Without warning he took Sasuke in his mouth, satisfied at the sudden groan.

Sasuke stood looking down in shock until his eyes rolled closed. When he could no longer take it he dropped to his knees, took Naruto’s head between his hands and kissed him. Then his hands dropped and closed around the boy’s penis. He licked the head, closed his lips over it. His fingers pushed inside the boy. His hands moved, his mouth moved, Naruto’s penis went into his throat, stopped his breathing.

Naruto drew a shuddering breath and grabbed Sasuke’s wrist.

He glanced up through black strands of hair and licked the head again. Naruto groaned and pulled him up. His gaze was steady.

Never breaking eye contact, Sasuke bent up one of Naruto’s legs, pushed and then again, inside.

He saw Naruto’s lips part slightly in a sharp intake of breath. Sweat broke out all over the boy’s body. Slowly, Sasuke pushed further in.

Naruto tightened his grip on Sasuke’s side, fingers digging into the flesh. He let out a breath and pushed into Sasuke’s movement, pulling him closer, breaking eye contact.

Arms locked around him, Sasuke began to move faster, the feeling changing each moment, with each intense touch. He was enveloped and spent every last inch of control on movement, movement met strongly by this maddening, hot, dripping body upright in front of him, around him, squeezing him unbearably.

Sound, breath all came without thought. Naruto’s legs wrapped around, pushed him ever deeper.

The building feeling took over his mind. Naruto came between them and his space contracted. Sasuke came inside him, moving inside him, his body convulsing in its grip on the blond boy, even his arms near exhaustion, his chest hammering, his lungs pulling in air.

When thought returned he realised he still held Naruto. The boy fell back onto the bed, Sasuke collapsing with him, their bodies not parting. Sasuke’s head lay on Naruto’s chest, on its side.

Their eyes stayed open, wide. They breathed, only their chests moving their bodies in the still room.

Naruto lifted his hand – too exhausted to be anything but relaxed – still hesitant. He lowered it slowly onto Sasuke’s head, his fingers moving through the black hair.

Sasuke closed his eyes and smiled. He brought his hand up – wondering if he could – around the back of Naruto’s neck.

After twenty minutes of stillness, black eyes snapped open.

What had he done?

Shit.

The guy had been a virgin. Probably never kissed anyone before. Sasuke lifted himself up, backed against the wall by the bed, sitting naked on the carpet.

Shit. He shouldn’t do anything like that with innocents.

Naruto stirred.

Fuck.

Sasuke folded his arms and immediately made a face. He had cum all over his chest. He walked to the bathroom and ran a bath, wracked his brain. Naruto had almost been a friend, hadn’t he? Sort of. And now he’d gone and slept with him . . .

He heard muted footsteps and snapped his eyes open. The blond boy walked in, wearing nothing, and leant against the doorframe.

‘Why do you look shocked?’ Naruto asked bemusedly, ‘Surely it’s supposed to be more of a surprise for me?’ He grinned and scratched the back of his head.

Sasuke wanted to ask if the boy was all right with what they did. But he watched him approach, slid back to make room for him in the bath.

They faced each other in the warm water.

‘No, seriously, what’s wrong?’

Sasuke frowned. ‘I just . . .’ Could Naruto really be fine with it? If it wasn’t leaving or getting the person out of your room, what happened after sex?

Sasuke obviously thought for too long, because Naruto got bored and slid his hand between Sasuke’s legs. Sasuke pushed himself up and sat on the side of the bath.

Naruto looked up questioningly.

‘Was that the first time . . .?’ Sasuke asked.

‘Geez, was it that obvious?’ He parted Sasuke’s legs. ‘I appreciate the’ – he glanced at Sasuke’s expression – ‘concern, but chill.’

The blond boy moved his hand along the other’s penis, sucked the head, ran his fingers between, to the ass, played with the opening. It was wet, he pushed his fingers inside.

He looked up, one side of his mouth curling in a smile, ‘Of course, if you’d rather I stopped all this-’

Sasuke yanked him up into a kiss – tongues stretching, pushing, maddening. When they drew apart for breath, Naruto realised his fingers were still inside Sasuke. He raised an eyebrow and pushed them further in.

Sasuke curled up convulsively and pulled the blond against his chest. Naruto pushed him back and laughed. He sunk into the water again, taking Sasuke into his mouth.

He drew it out, speeding up, slowing down, again and again – keeping the dark-haired boy above him on the cusp for as long as possible, hearing him gasp, groan, moan and eventually thrust and shudder. Naruto sucked harder, swallowing what came into his mouth until it stopped and he could just hear Sasuke’s breathing.

Sasuke dropped his head back in exhaustion. He spoke between breaths, ‘You have to know what that feels like. Right now.’

Naruto chuckled. A second later he was yanked out of the water again and perched on the side of the bath. As Sasuke began, the boy fell off the edge, onto the tiles.

‘Whoa, shit!’

Sasuke jumped out after him and pinned him down, continuing.

‘Ow! That was – ah!’

Sasuke answered by running his tongue down the boy’s shaft, into is ass. Naruto, blond hair wet against the tiles, pushed off the floor involuntarily. The Uchiha pinned him down again.

They left the hotel room five days later – a broken shower door, a cracked sink, torn curtains, one door off its hinge, three broken bar stools and half their clothing in and amongst the mess of bedding and cushions and plates which littered the floor were left behind in their wake. Hickies, carpet burns, bruises and scratches were felt with each movement. Naruto had rope burns around his wrists and wore a sometimes-disgruntled, sometimes-bemused look.

There was a short bus trip to the train station. They both slept like the dead, relaxed and prone to grinning. Passers-by were likely to think they were on something.

The tall boy walked to the ticket counter and blew black stands of hair out of his face. He dropped his bag.

‘Can I have two first-class tickets to-’ He looked up and smiled disarmingly at the girl behind the desk, ‘Shit, I’ve forgotten.’ He turned back, ‘Oi! Naruto! Where are we going again?’

As the blond-haired boy approached the first one reached his arm out, pulling him against himself, then in front of him. He buried his face in the neck and blond hair.

The new arrival looked up, grinning, his eyes incredibly blue. ‘To . . .’ He frowned and scratched the back of his head. ‘. . . Zurich?’

‘Yes, that’s it,’ said a muffled voice from his neck.

‘Will that be cash or credit card?’

Part 5: tension builds – explosions of anger and coffee and noodles!

Sasuke sat down in front of the flat-screen, coffee in hand. Naruto sat down in front of the only other free one in the internet café – the one opposite Sasuke’s - coffee, sandwiches and bowls of instant noodles laid out in front of him.

The blond spoke incessantly to the person next to him, something about the noodles. Something apparently exciting about the noodles.

Sasuke rolled his eyes. It was odd going around with Naruto. He enjoyed things. Actively. And loudly.

First it had been buying noodles. Lots of them. Mountains of them. Then it had been the hotel rooms. Then the TGV. Then Paris.

He made friends with everyone. Whether they wanted him to or not. Whether Sasuke wanted him to or not.

He’d come back last night to find Naruto in the suite lounge with all of the hotel porters. Playing poker.

He’d have to sit the boy down and explain what a ‘low profile’ meant.

‘Encore une tasse, s’il vous plait,’ he said to a passing waiter.

‘Segoi,’ said Naruto over the monitor. ‘Oo, say something else. That’s French, right?’

Sasuke scowled. He had to transfer money into the bank account he’d set up that morning with the new passport. Just enough for one person to live off. He hoped it would disguise the much bigger transfers into the second account he’d made.

His second coffee arrived as he finished. He looked at the spiky blond hair above the monitor in front of him. He only had to raise himself an inch to see the boy’s face.

Sasuke typed Uzumaki Naruto into Google. Strangely enough, he shared a name with some anime character. Sasuke filtered those articles out without reading any. Otherwise, the only one which contained both names was a newspaper article from four years ago.

Young boy . . . adopted by a teacher, Umino Iruka . . .

Sasuke raised his eyebrows – adopted by one of the teachers. Did anyone know that about him?

No previous caretakers known . . .

That’s all it said. And that was the only article about him.

Sasuke looked over the monitor and found Naruto already doing the same.

Naruto’s face split into a mischievous grin. He looked as if he’d found some new joke and wasn’t going to shut up about it for days.

Sasuke had the sinking feeling he’d found something along the lines of www.onlinedictionary.com.

‘Why’re you grinning?’ he asked suspiciously.

‘No reason.’ Naruto chuckled.

Sasuke decided it would be less tiring if he simply kept the scowl on the entire day. He’d expected Naruto to leave the minute they landed. He hadn’t. ‘You really have nowhere else to go, do you?’

‘Nope. So?’ he was still bloody chuckling.

‘Baka,’ muttered Sasuke.

Phenomenally, Naruto’s grin managed to get even wider. ‘Nympho,’ he said.

‘Virgin,’ Sasuke shot back immediately. He scowled for the umpteenth time. So much for a low bloody profile. They were getting odd looks. ‘Let’s go.’

They bought laptops on their way back to the hotel and set to work. Three cups of coffee later – or in Naruto’s case, four bowls of noodles later – Sasuke bit the end of his spoon. He was frustrated.

He’d found the passport Itachi had used for the first two weeks. He’d gone to Russia.

He sat back. The police had wondered how he’d gotten into China – where he was spotted three weeks after that. Sasuke had contacted people who’d look for him in Japan. Their family had land there and Itachi had lived there until he was twelve. There was a chance. Perhaps he should look into tickets.

He frowned at the screen. But money had been taken out of the Swiss account two days ago. It was disguised as an estate expense, but Sasuke had a list of those. It was as if his brother wasn’t hiding from him.

It was a bit much for the boy.

He looked around, edgy. Naruto lay sprawled on his stomach in front of his laptop. He scowled at the screen. ‘Haku’s got more extensive records. If he can find out which passports he’s used we can see which bank accounts he’s opened. It’ll be much easier to trace him,’ his eyes moved over to Sasuke, ‘You look like him, don’t you? You could walk in as him. Take his cash. He won’t be able to move as much.’

‘Call the guy tomorrow.’

Naruto nodded and rolled onto his back, stretching.

That was too much for the black-haired boy. He grabbed his jacket. ‘I’m going out, see you tomorrow.’

Naruto walked through to Sasuke’s room the next morning. He stopped. Sasuke raised his head. The scowl swung into place.

‘There’s someone in your bed,’ said Naruto quietly.

‘I know. And you’re in my bedroom.’ He looked at the clock, ‘It’s six o’clock in the morning.’

‘Well,’ said Naruto, slightly unnerved at the bare-chested stranger, ‘We’ve got four different passports of his and Haku can make all of them.’

‘I’ll be there in a minute.’

They began a strange chase of cornering Sasuke’s brother. By the time they were in Turkey Naruto was laisez-faire enough to walk into Sasuke’s room whenever the other needed to be up and say, ‘Get rid of the blonde.’

That morning, Sasuke shook the girl gently. ‘Temari, sorry, I’ve got work to do.’

She smiled sleepily. ‘Okay okay. I’m going.’

The next morning it was a brunette, ‘Cheers Kankuro.’

Sasuke eyed the guy sitting at a table. He hadn’t danced the whole night. He looked up into Sasuke’s gaze, black lines beneath his eyes.

He looked interesting, and Sasuke hadn’t slept with a redhead in a while.

Sasuke turned back to the bar and in a few minutes the boy approached. He looked a year or two older. There was something electric about him.

Sasuke turned around and the boy stepped very close.

The Uchiha wondered whether he should have left the hospital. He knew he was going to sleep with him. He hadn’t said a word to him and he leaned across to kiss him, no doubt as to what the stranger would think, not caring what anyone thought.

They were almost thrown out of the club, asked to separate, his fingers down a strangers pants, touching hair, touching . . . He drew them out. But he needed to sleep with someone.

They went behind the bar, into the kitchen, into a storage room. The boy went down on him, Sasuke turned him round, pushed into him, reached his arm around to the boy’s penis – moved hard, fast. Someone knocked on the door, finding it locked. Sasuke came as quickly as he could, pounding into the stranger for that one moment of forgetting things. He had a cigarette lit by the time they opened the door.

The next morning Naruto heard him say goodbye to someone in the hall.

‘Who was that?’

‘A guy called Gaara,’ said Sasuke on the way to his room. Naruto followed him in.

‘Why’re you packing?’ he asked.

Sasuke frowned. ‘I’ve just realised something. We should leave.’

‘I was gonna say that.’

‘Well then pack now.’

On the plane, after Sasuke had explained, Naruto burst out laughing. ‘Siblings?’

Sasuke leant his head against the window, ‘I only found out this morning.’

‘Why in such a hurry to go?’

‘It’s only a matter of time till they find out. Their father’s some sort of unstable oil tycoon from Saudi Arabia and I suspect Temari and Gaara have tempers.’

Naruto chuckled, but got back to business. ‘So we actually have camera footage of him this time?’

Sasuke nodded. That had been a jolt in the stomach. ‘Athens.’

‘Cool, Italy.’

‘Greece, dobe.’

Sasuke heard his door open. He almost groaned. He and Naruto had been travelling together for two months and the idiot hadn’t learnt not to do that yet.

Firstly, Sasuke woke up much later that the blond.

Secondly, the oh-so-important information the boy wanted to tell him was usually something that could wait an hour or six.

Thirdly, Naruto was the only person on earth who looked so damn good at half past five in the morning. It pissed Sasuke off.

‘Get rid of the brunette, you have to hear this. I’ve got names of three hotels . . .’ The boy wasn’t even whispering anymore.

Fourthly, if he’d brought someone back, it was just downright rude to let them hear a stranger demand they’re kicked out. There was an etiquette to the whole thing.

But this morning would be more amusing than most.

The brunette rolled over and sat up. ‘Get rid of . . .?’ He said with raised eyebrows.

Naruto, sitting on the back of a chair, froze in shock.

‘Kiba?’

‘Naruto?’

Kiba turned to Sasuke with a grin, ‘You’re together?’

Naruto fell off the chair. Sasuke shook his head. ‘He’s been helping me.’

Kiba turned back to Naruto with a frown, ‘How long have you been away from school, then?’

‘As long as I have,’ answered Sasuke, pulling the covers over his head.

‘You’re in his bed!’ Naruto said in shock. Sasuke sat up and rolled his eyes, realising he wouldn’t get back to sleep.

Kiba grinned insolently.

‘How did you find us?’ Naruto continued, ‘Interpol’s looking for us!’

Kiba shrugged, ‘On holiday now, felt like dropping by.’ He raised an eyebrow, ‘I can’t believe Interpol hasn’t thought of just sms-ing you to ask.’

Sasuke saw him out after a very stressful breakfast. Naruto sulked, Kiba looked from one to the other and grinned far too much. And Sasuke never even ate breakfast.

‘You’re really not . . .?’ said the brunette in the doorway.

‘Nothing at all.’

‘Why not, man?’ Kiba raised an eyebrow, ‘We’ve been at boarding school for years now, we’ve all see Naruto na-’ the door shut in his face. He chuckled.

Sasuke went back into the kitchen.

‘You gave him your number? Don’t you think they could find us after that?’ Naruto asked.

‘Oh, come on. We’re not exactly on the list of most wanted, and he was in France anyway.’

‘It’s really easy to trace his cell phone, though. Are you sure they’re not doing that?’ Naruto folded his arms. ‘You should get a new one today.’

‘I will.’

‘And even then-’

‘Give it a rest, I know what I’m doing.’

‘But that was-’

‘What about it? I felt like it. It was safe. Stop whining.’

‘I’m not.’

‘You were.’

‘We should move hotels.’

‘I know that! Christ! I didn’t even ask you to do any of this. You don’t have to be here.’

‘Were you with him too? At school. When you went out with Sakura and Tenten.’

Sasuke sat. ‘What’s it to you?’

The blue eyes looked at him steadily.

‘Yes! Who cares! He didn’t mind. I had no clue what I was doing.’ Sasuke raised his hands. ‘I just did stuff. Stay out of it.’

‘You think you have some sort of excuse for acting like a fucking bastard.’

‘Excuse me?’

Naruto shook his head. ‘Melodramatic depression over a situation so many others have to deal with too. What’s really getting to you?’

‘-a situation others have to deal with too?’ Sasuke’s response was barely controlled.

‘People deal with worse and they get over it.’

Sasuke stood without realising it, anger making him act without thought. ‘What the fuck do you know about it?’

‘Nothing. Cause you don’t tell anyone. Is there some sort of secret or do you just choose to wallow so you can do whatever you want? You’re a spoilt, pampered brat.’

Sasuke pushed him up against the wall before he knew what he’d done.

The blond stopped and looked at Sasuke’s hand on his shoulder. Everything suddenly felt very close.

Sasuke stepped back. ‘If you hate everything about me, why are you still here?’

Naruto glared.

Sasuke couldn’t help from carrying on spitefully. ‘Fuck off. You followed me all the way out here just because you thought I paid attention to you, something I didn’t even do.’

Naruto’s back straightened. His eyes seemed almost cat-like, seething. He stepped aside and left the room.

Sasuke lit a cigarette. He sat on the couch and listened to his footsteps get further away, listened to the door slam.

He flopped back on a couch and exhaled.

Part 4: Threats and escape plans!

The place he found himself in, a week later, was very bright. Very white. He couldn’t remember getting there. All he could recall of the past days were images from an infinity of nightmares.

His body ached, shuddered at memories of pain – searing, dull, intense, all at the same time. Eventually it stopped.

Psychologists, psychiatrists, asked him questions. He answered them truthfully this time. Why not? They didn’t ask about him and Itachi anyway, so nothing knocked him out of the removed daze he’d fallen into. Not caring brought on a strange state of honesty.

Cards and presents arrived.

One had a dog on it:

God, that must have sucked. I know it’s none of my business and all, but felt like sending something. So, hope you need these. - Kiba

Sasuke almost smiled. It was the only present he unwrapped.

Hn. A box of condoms.

One morning he woke to a familiar, apathetic voice.

‘Tell me this isn’t sorting things out.’ Kakashi sat in a chair in the corner of the room.

‘What if I find it creepy that you’re watching me in my sleep?’

The man shrugged, non-plussed. ‘You almost had us stumped,’ the man said, his fingers interlocked. ‘They filled you with corline to neutralise the sheer amount of metadrin you put into yourself. Yet you continued to get worse. Lucky for you, I had people turning out all the bins in the school, so we found the tablet containers. Your stomach was pumped and you were given more antidotes. But your . . . wellbeing deteriorated. But, luckily, the fireplaces hadn’t been cleaned yet. So we could treat you for gheminine overdose as well.’ Kakashi remained seated, leaning back, ‘As the most observant doctor noted – you weren’t joking. Apparently you were quite a study. They said it’s not legal to experiment with that much in one person, even if it’s voluntary. They brought in students.’ Then he got up and approached. ‘You’d have been successful if I hadn’t stopped by half an hour after dinner.’

Sasuke glanced at him only when he was right by the bed. ‘You said you wouldn’t interfere.’

‘Now I’m going to.’

The professor didn’t get a response.

‘You were fourteen when it started, he was the only sexual experience you’d had until a few months ago. You need to speak to someone.’

‘Do you really want me to talk?’

‘Yes. Anything that helps.’

Again, Sasuke remained silent.

‘You’re going to see a psychologist when you get out or I tell these doctors.’

The next day a doctor walked in, ‘A friend’s come to see you.’

Sasuke sat. He’d been given the option to turn away the rest. Who managed the same thing as Kakashi?

Sasuke saw the blond hair first.

‘Can we speak alone?’ looking at the doctor, Naruto’s face became worried – the picture of a sensitive young boy struggling to do something difficult and awkward.

‘Of course,’ the doctor squeezed Naruto’s shoulder, comforting.

When the door clicked closed behind the man, Naruto turned to the black-haired boy, all traces of the act gone, replaced by anger. He slapped Sasuke across the cheek.

Sasuke’s vision blacked over for a moment and something in his jaw cracked.

‘Why the fuck-?’ he began, but Naruto cut in,

‘Your mother’s dead. Your father’s dead. And your brother’s a bastard who’s disappeared. Someone has to beat some sense into you.’

There were long seconds of silence.

The blond boy then looked sheepish – seemed very young. He sat down and picked up the papers at the bottom of Sasuke’s bed, looking for anything to do.

Sasuke massaged his jaw. ‘Why do you keep doing that?’

‘I’ve just told you.’

Black eyes narrowed. Sasuke hadn’t felt anything in days. Now he was pissed off. ‘What’s it to you?’

Naruto shrugged, paging through papers distractedly. ‘No-one else was doing anything.’ His blue eyes shot up from the folder with a frown. ‘Why’d you say goodbye only to me?’

‘No reason,’ he replied, keeping eye contact.

Naruto broke it, looking down again, mouthing words before asking, ‘What’s “clinically diagnosed nymphomania”?’

‘What? Why?’

He cocked his head to the side, ‘Seems to be about you-’

‘Hand that over,’ Sasuke’s voice was very level. Naruto did so and Sasuke slapped it closed.

Naruto still had a frown on his face, ‘It was underlined . . .’

Sasuke flicked the folder open.

‘-three times,’ the blond continued.

Sasuke found the list of diagnoses.

‘Sounds serious,’ Naruto insisted, angling for an explanation.

The list was long.

‘You’re not gonna tell me?’

Nymphomania was the only emphasised word. ‘Nope. Dobe.’

‘Anyway,’ Naruto continued, ‘I take it you don’t like the hospital?’

Sasuke rolled his eyes, ‘It’s thrilling.’

‘So you want to leave?’

‘Does your brain actually work that slowly?’

Naruto ignored that, ‘You’d go after your brother?’

Sasuke tried to think about it, but the idiot made him too angry, ‘Yes,’ he said irritably.

‘You can support yourself, right?’

‘Yeah.’

‘I’ll help.’

‘Why do you want to?’

‘Don’t want to go back to school, don’t have any of my own money. Thought this would be more interesting.’

‘Why do you think I need your help?’

‘You’re under watch. You’ve tried to get out already, but even bloody Kakashi’s keeping you in here.’ He grinned. ‘You need help, before they tie you to the bloody bed. And I want to get out of Scotland.’

Sasuke thought for a moment – about Kakashi’s threat, about the infuriatingly amused person in front of him, about – he had to admit – being tied to a bed. ‘Okay.’

‘Really?’ Naruto shot back instantaneously, his eyes wide.

‘Don’t get too excited. It’ll probably take forever and you’ll be bored out of you skull.’

Naruto spoke over him, ‘Tracking someone down’ll be sooo cool.’

‘Dobe.’

‘Let’s go.’

‘Don’t be an idiot,’ Sasuke closed the folder in his hands. ‘There are too many people on watch during the day. But with two of us it shouldn’t be tricky at all at night.’

Sasuke walked through the dense undergrowth of the gardens silently until the outer wall loomed above him. He tightened the straps of his satchel – he didn’t want it getting caught on anything.

The boy thanked the English tendency to think ivy on walls leant a distinguished air and began to climb. He flung the carpet from his room – pushed between the burglar bars before he left – onto the electric fence and lifted himself over.

The guard had been easy to get around. Especially when he thought he was meeting the boy in a specific place to do god knows what. Well, Sasuke had a pretty good idea what, but the expression seemed to fit.

After the man outside his door, it had just been a matter of Naruto speaking to Kakashi at precisely the right moment, then pretending to visit Sasuke, to allow the black-haired boy to get through the gardens and over the walls before leaving himself.

Sasuke landed soft-footedly outside the hospital grounds and brought the carpet down after him to drag it out of sight. Three streetlamps down, he sat in the shadows to wait.

It reminded him strangely of the night before his birthday. His head was probably still odd – darkness had never been filled by his mind to the degree that it now was. The world felt as if it was going to be whipped out from beneath his feet again.

He thought of leaving right then – anything rather than sitting there - but he needed to hear whether or not he’d been found out, to know how to move.

So he had to wait for Naruto.

The boy sighed and ran two fingertips along a shirt-sleeve. He wondered whether taking the guy would lead to trouble. Naruto was strange . . . He’d see how it went.

He heard a light landing down the street and turned his head. Naruto was on his way – approaching quickly. The boy broke into a run.

Sasuke stood, ‘What happened? Why’d you come over the wall?’

Naruto shook his head and swung up into the tree behind Sasuke, motioning for Sasuke to follow. They climbed to a high branch and sat – close, as the width of the branch made them have to remain near the trunk.

‘Watch,’ Naruto hissed, his voice very low, his face close in the dark.

Sasuke looked up and down the street far below. Kakashi walked beneath them. They watched him in silence. When he’d been swallowed by the gentle corner of the wall and by the shadows, Naruto whispered again, just as quietly,

‘I could string him along for a bit, but not long enough.’

A car passed below, and in the moving light Sasuke could make out white teeth. The boy was grinning. Was he enjoying this?

‘We’re hiding in a tree.’ He even sounded pleased.

‘Yes . . .’ Sasuke said slowly, ‘. . . we are.’ He shook his head dismissively, ‘Did you call the cab?’

‘Yup.’

‘We’ll have to let Kakashi find that one. Give me your phone.’

Naruto took it out of a pocket, ‘I’ll call another.’

‘No, hand over the phone.’

‘Why?’

‘I’ve got another idea.’

‘What is it?’

Sasuke took the phone out of the boy’s hand, tired of questions. Naruto grabbed it back angrily, ‘Why won’t you tell m-?’

The blond boy’s expression froze.

They both heard a very plastic thud, thud – crunch, as the phone bounced through the tree to the street.

‘Fuck.’

‘Well done,’ said Sasuke in tones of deepest sarcasm. He let out a frustrated breath. ‘If we wonder around for a payphone we’ll be spotted in minutes.’

There was a moment of silence in the tree.

‘Dobe,’ Sasuke eventually added.

‘There was a phone in the hospital . . .’

Sasuke glared at Naruto. But the idea was in his head: he was already counting guards and night staff. He shook his head. What kind of an idiot was this kid? Sasuke’s mind carried on working things out in spite of him. Kakashi was gone – would be looking for them outside . . .

‘It’s so weird we might just get away with it.’ They climbed down, got the carpet over again, broke into an office and fifteen minutes later where in a taxi headed to . . .

‘Heathrow?’ Naruto asked.

Sasuke spoke to the driver, ‘Stansted Airport.’ He turned to Naruto. ‘My father’s plane is still there. It’ll make cutting through formalities easier.’

The boy shrugged and took a cell phone out of his pocket.

‘Where’d you get that?’

Naruto looked up for a moment, ‘Was on the desk. We need one.’

‘Oh.’

Naruto dialled a number. ‘Hey, can you meet me at Stansted?’ Sasuke strained to hear the other voice, but couldn’t make it out. ‘Twenty minutes.’ The boy took the phone from his face and asked, ‘How much would you pay to bribe the immigration guys?’

Sasuke told him, frowning.

Naruto brought the phone up again, ‘Yeah, how much? . . . No . . . Okay, wait.’ He turned back to a perplexed Sasuke. ‘Does ₤500 sound better?’

‘Yeah, but . . .’

Naruto spoke into the phone, ‘All right. See you there.’ The phone disappeared into a pocket.

‘What was that? You’re not bringing friends in to help, are you?’

‘No,’ Naruto’s face turned dark, ‘just people who can make us passports.’

At the entrance to International Departures the two boys – mismatched and tall – passed the guards and the only two other people there at that hour. One was a huge, forbidding man with a glint in his eyes which Sasuke immediately thought of as, well, deranged. In front of him stood a young girl with long black hair. Sasuke’s head turned as he walked. She was gorgeous.

He smiled at the fact that he was already working out how to speak to her – it had become a bloody habit.

They sat at a table in a café and just as they ordered, - it seemed Naruto was hungry – the girl sat down with them. She wore kind of masculine clothes.

Sasuke had always liked androgyny.

‘How quickly do you need them?’ she asked.

‘As soon as possible,’ Naruto answered.

Sasuke blinked. ‘This girl is forging them for us?’

Naruto’s face split into an insolent grin. Something had amused him no end. ‘This is a guy, Sasuke.’ He laughed.

Sasuke looked again. The . . . boy arched a slender eyebrow and drew his hair back, tying it, showing a long neck, wide eyes. ‘You shouldn’t be too surprised, Naruto, you thought the same.’

‘Oh, come on, Haku, I was ten when I met you . . .’ Naruto looked outside toward the muscular man that had stopped in the entrance, his arms folded, glaring at the few passers-by. Naruto spoke quietly. ‘Come with us. Leave.’

Haku looked down and gave a tiny shake of the head. ‘Friends, right?’ he asked after a moment.

‘Yeah,’ said Naruto immediately. He always looked so damn honest.

‘Then just leave it.’ Haku looked up again, his mouth stretching into a charming smile, ‘I’ll do this for you. Okay? There’s a hotel here, we’ll need a room to set up the equipment and take the pictures.’

Sasuke looked from Naruto to Haku. Both were tall and slender. One was graceful, elegant, weirdly feminine. And Naruto was boyish and well . . . His thought was interrupted by the sight of Haku laughing. Sasuke realised he had to get out of there.

‘How long do you need? I’m going to charter a plane and find an airport on the continent small enough not to have camera’s. This is all useless if we’re seen going through.’

‘Just over an hour.’

Sasuke nodded and stood. He should have slept with that nurse that had been flirting with him. It’d been more than a week now . . .

The plane took off without a hitch, without uniformed people pulling them aside at immigration, without blue-lit cars approaching on the runway. Sasuke looked through his new passport, amazed at how quickly they’d been put onto the system.

‘What else can the guy do?’

Naruto shrugged, pulling a thin, wide-necked jersey out of his bag. Why orange? Sasuke couldn’t help but wonder.

‘How’d you meet him?’

‘Just knew him before school.’ A few minutes later the boy looked out the window, his eyes widening. Evidently, he could be pulled out of a thoughtful mood very easily. ‘Yo! Is that Edinburgh? It’s huge! I’ve never been there!’

‘We flew out of London and we’ve been in the air for three minutes.’

‘I know where we took off from,’ said Naruto angrily.

‘. . . and so we’re nowhere near Edinburgh. How quickly do you think planes fly?’

‘Dunno, never been on one.’

‘Oh.’ Another thought struck Sasuke. ‘. . . and which way do you think Europe is, dobe?’

Naruto glared, pulled his jersey over his head and looked out the window again. His long neck leant forward, turned into messy blond hair.

‘Mr. Yagano?’

That jersey sort of . . . clung to his shoulders, hung off them, fit to the shape of his back . . .

‘Mr. Yagano? Excuse me.’

‘What?’ Sasuke turned to look at the air hostess. ‘Ah. Yes, what is it?’

‘The captain asks if he may speak to you, sir.’

Sasuke stood. ‘My name’s Sasuke, please call me that.’ Sasuke was a common name, so he’d decided to keep it on the fake passport.

The woman blushed.

‘You are?’

‘Nicolla.’

‘Nicolla,’ he repeated. ‘Beautiful.’ She led him to the cockpit, placing her hand on his back as he stepped in.

‘Hello.’

‘Sir, traffic control can give us a route over the channel in twenty minutes. So is there any part of the UK you’d like to see from the air before we start across? The sun’ll be rising soon.’

Sasuke stared for a moment. What a weird end to a strange night. He named the first place that came to him.

‘Nicolla,’ he said on his way back, ‘When we fly over Edinburgh, can you make sure the blond guy over there doesn’t open the door to get a better look?’ She laughed.

Alone

Part 1: Jasmine Tree

Konoha. 11:43 pm.

An ancient jasmine tree stood, branches heavy with blossoms. It was surrounded by a large courtyard which narrowed to a corridor lined with occasional doors. It was quiet, still, dark in the night.

A sound – a scuffle behind a thin barrier. The door rolled open, was slammed aside. A flash of black hair over a bare shoulder. She ran out.

A shirtless boy followed. Long hair tied back, eyes white and angry and afraid.

He caught up – a hand on her shoulder – and he spun her round.

‘Don’t.’

The girl held her top against herself, pushed it up her arm with delicate fingers. She spoke in a whisper. ‘We have to stop.’

‘Look at me.’

‘No.’

‘Look at me.’

She raised her eyes, then brought her face up. She was aware of her skin – bare from her neck to her arm. Her hand clenched around the material of her top and she pulled it further up.

‘Neji, we can’t do this.’

‘Do you hate it?’

The girl squeezed her eyes closed.

Neji took in her features. He moved his hand under her top, placed it against her stomach.

She tried to step away, but his other hand held her lower back, held her there. His fingers moved down, finding her opening.

The girl grabbed his arm, biting her lip. ‘Stop.’

‘Do you hate it?’ He pushed two inside and heard her let out a breath, felt her hand tighten around his arm.

‘Neji.’

He pushed them further in, repeated the movement.

Her eyes flew open. She tried to hit his arm away, tried to push away from him, kick away from him.

Neji pushed her against the wall of the corridor. She fought back and edged away. By the time she was against a narrow windowsill ledge he had stopped her movement. His fingers were still inside her, his face was close to hers.

‘Hinata, do you hate this?’

‘No,’ she breathed quietly, then bit her lip, covered her mouth with her hand. Their eyes stayed locked as he undid the knots of material around her waist. He could feel her skin, pushed her thighs apart.

Hinata shook her head.

Neji knelt down.

‘We’ll be seen.’

He moved his tongue inside her. She pushed against the window, her mouth just open. He moved his tongue up to her clitoris, pushed against it, circled it, played with it on the surface of his tongue and lips. Hinata bit her finger, her eyes tightly closed again.

He moved faster, pushing her legs against the glass of the window. Her fingers dug into his shoulder. She almost drew blood from the hand in her mouth, not feeling the pain, losing where she was. Her breathing sped up until she let out a low moan – every muscle in her body tensing as she came.

She pulled Neji up, looked at the usually stern features. She kissed him and pulled her against him – both of their tongues pushing out and feeling, taking the other in. She grimaced and wrapped her legs around him, pulling him to her urgently. They both fumbled with his pants.

Hinata took his penis in her hand, but stopped – the feeling of it was too real. She was wet again. Her expression was pained.

‘Neji, if they-?’

He pushed his head against her opening but didn’t enter. He brought his lips to just in front of hers. A warmth spamsed through her body.

‘Why did you put Rin to sleep?’

‘Because she was distressed. It’s too much for her now.’

The retrieval team had taken Obito’s body back. They had to go quickly and with as few people as possible. So Rin, Kakashi and their Sensei took a different route.

Kakashi looked at the inert girl curled up by the fire. ‘You sped us up this morning. You knew before she did.’

The blond man nodded.

Kakashi sat down. ‘There’s still a long way to go. Four days.’

Another nod. The young man looked up. ‘We’d be there by now if they hadn’t blown up the bridge as we arrived.’

Kakashi fidgeted. He never had before.

His sensei continued, keeping their eyes locked, ‘And you have less than two hours.’

The white-haired boy’s heart skipped a beat. There was no one else out there with them. He’d die. Like this. After what Rin had done. After what Obito had given him.

‘Kakashi?

Above his mask, one grey eye, one black, snapped up.

‘She knew you needed charka-controled conenine, but she didn’t know that it was purely because of how it amplifies a chemical released by your brain.’

The eyes widened. Conenine released three chemicals . . . ‘Fre-’

The blond man shook his head.

‘Gil-’

‘No.’

‘Endorphins. Is there something? Something that’ll stop my charka pushing his out? That’ll stop my blood rejecting the eye?’ He could already feel the poison in his blood. The transplant was being rejected, he was rundown from the fight and the operation and the fleeing. ‘What is it?’

Kakashi could see his sensei was forcing himself not to look away. ‘I don’t have anything on me to induce it. But you know as much of medicine as Rin does. And now you know this.’

The young jounin stared. His cheeks turned pink. He was glad of his mask. ‘I’ll have to . . .’

‘Many, many, many times.’ The blond man said. He swallowed. ‘More than you can by yourself.’

Kakashi’s cheeks burned red. He became quite certain the mask didn’t hide it. His heart beat faster.

This is a sasunaru at heart, although it gets confused along the way. There’s a dash of angst, some humour (hopefully), a good helping of fluff (later chapters), some detective-work, a little psychological trauma and confusion and even some action all mixed up in the romance. Things became stranger over the next few days. Usually Sasuke could deal with people without thinking about sexual exploits, but suddenly all he could see when speaking to a person was sleeping with them.

He looked round the classroom.

Shino – the computer lab, free periods.

When he wasn’t walking around with an apparently inexplicable smile on his face, he was frowning.

Tenten – the storage room of the library.

The hallways had turned into a minefield.

Shikamaru – he’d been tricky – finally in Sasuke’s room one morning, then again at lunch, then that night . . .

He ducked into an empty classroom when he registered that last thought. When had he turned into a bastard?

Sasuke smiled briefly.

‘Stopped coming to practice?’

Sasuke nodded. ‘Kiba, nothing personal, but you mind if we stop this? Break it off? My head’s been weird.’

Kiba shrugged. ‘Kay.’ He walked across the room to Sasuke, ‘Not as if we were together really.’

He pushed Sasuke back until Sasuke’s legs hit the side of his bed.

A mischievous glint appeared in Kiba’s eyes, ‘You said breaking it off,’ his hand found its way into Sasuke’s pants, ‘Break up screwing, then?’

Sasuke realised this wasn’t going according to plan, not exactly at least.

Kiba took his hand out and started back to the bathroom, dropping his towel, walking jauntily, chuckling.

Sasuke grinned in spite of himself, Kiba was amused by everything. The black-haired boy stripped and by the time Kiba had reached the sink, Sasuke was behind him, pulling him towards himself, his arm reaching round. Sasuke pushed inside and Kiba rose to his tip-toes, gripping the sides of the basin.

The others he told as he saw them. Some he knew he didn’t have to say anything to. Others were upset. Some didn’t care – he’d been strange even when he’d been with them.

The words came to his mouth in front of Sakura before he realised it.

Tears came to her eyes.

Three days later, Sasuke was passing the indoor pool when Kakashi waved him over.

‘You haven’t been put in detention for over a week.’

‘Yeah, I’ve been busy. I’m calling off a few things, trying to sort stuff out. It’s taking a bit of time.’

Kakashi nodded. ‘Good.’

‘How’s practice going?’

They leant on the railing of the stands, watching the swimmers lift themselves – long limbs stretched – out of the water, walk dripping to the diving boards, bend over in preparation for a dive, and launch themselves through the surface of the water.

‘Well. The girls had waxings.’ Kakashi cocked an eye-brow. ‘Smoother glides.’

Sasuke straightened with a rueful smile. ‘See you in class.’

Kakashi nodded, his eyes following Hinata. She pointedly ignored the boy who left his side.

In the courtyard outside, Sasuke saw Sakura and Tenten – sitting together. He rolled his eyes, knowing this wasn’t going to be fun. Their glares would have impaled most boys against the wall, but he was still feeling numb.

As he rounded the bend he saw Naruto was with them. The black-haired boy grimaced.

Naruto approached him. Sasuke dodged the first punch, hit away the second, and then hit the blond boy squarely on the jaw. Naruto staggered back.

Sparkles appeared in front of Sasuke’s eyes and pain registered. He stepped away, his hand rising to his face, glaring at Naruto. People usually took longer then that to recover from a punch, but the blond had just returned it?

‘You were seeing both of them and then you ‘didn’t feel like it anymore!’’ Naruto almost shouted.

Sasuke wiped blood off his lip. ‘Hn.’ That had been stupid, he supposed. Girls had such big mouths. He raised his eyebrows. ‘I wasn’t seeing them.’

‘Then what?’

Sasuke lifted his shoulders. ‘Why are you looking after someone who doesn’t give a damn about you? She’s not even nice to you.’ He walked away. Now he felt guilty.

He just wanted to get to his room.

Pale hands took a collection of objects from a bag. Long fingers laid them out on a bed. Sasuke drew his knees up to his chest and spread out the unfamiliar purchases.

He’d never tried drugs before, they were stupid. But they seemed as good a way as any to follow through his plan. He made a face. He had a horrible taste in his mouth.

Someone knocked on the door but he ignored it.

The preparation was simpler than he’d imagined. The tall boy had been as surprised at the explanation as the dealer had been at Sasuke’s request for one.

He sat for a moment. He gathered himself, his resolve, listened to voices outside the window, to muffled ones passing the door, to the sound of his door swinging open . . .

His black eyes narrowed. He’d locked it.

Naruto waltzed in as if he hadn’t just picked the lock. ‘Hey, Sakura asked me to get her . . .’ The boy saw Sasuke sitting on the bed, a syringe in his hand, a packet on the bed. His voice trailed off. He frowned in confusion.

Sasuke stared back, his face expressionless.

‘What the fuck!’ Naruto began, ‘Why that?!’ He walked up to Sasuke. He brought his face close, but spoke just as loudly. ‘You’re not stupid. Stop acting like you are!’

Sasuke stared. Naruto was beginning to make him angry. Who was he to say that? He found it strange to feel something.

‘All right,’ the blond boy continued angrily, ‘there’re so many bloody rumours. What’s the actual problem? The problem you have now?’ Sasuke realised his head was aching – had he been nervous? Strange. ‘Tell someone!’

‘My brother,’ Sasuke heard himself saying the words, he didn’t remember forming them.

‘Just that?’

‘Yes.’

‘Do you know how to find him?’

So many policemen had asked Sasuke that. So many officials. Sasuke always said no. Week after week. After the first chase, no-one had found any trace of Itachi.

‘Yes.’ His brother had waited for Sasuke to come back. They wouldn’t have a chance like that again, ‘The police’ll botch it like they did last time.’

Naruto sat opposite him and leant against the wall. Blond hair over his eyes fell to the side as he lifted his head. ‘Then find him yourself. Hand him over, kill him, whatever.’ The boy looked down. ‘It’s better than wallowing and he’ll get to you less after that.’

Sasuke realised he knew nothing about Naruto. Simply some guy who was half at school, half not. Loud. He supposed his look couldn’t be too friendly at the moment. He hated being out of it like this.

Naruto stood. ‘It’s seven, you going to the dining hall?’ He looked as if he was going to camp out until Sasuke left his room.

The evening passed quickly. He remembered parts of it clearly, other sections were a fleeting haze. Sasuke walked ahead, ate alone, as Naruto did when he was there. People had ignored the blond boy enough for it to be automatic.

Sasuke moved his food around with a fork.

Kill Itachi?

He . . . His head hurt again, his chest . . .

A few people were on the point of sitting with him, but caught his mood and decided against it.

Sasuke passed almost everyone on his way out, ‘Cheers Naruto.’

He tossed something in the fire as he passed and, twenty minutes later in his room, the black-haired boy swallowed a glass of water with a grimace and shot up with three times more than he’d been told was an overdose.

Her hair was pink. She was never certain what she thought of that. She put the mirror on her bedside table and rolled over to look at the time. Seven. Where was she?

‘Sakura!’

The girl sat up at the sound of her mother’s voice. She grinned and jumped off the bed, bounding down the stairs to see if she’d arrived.

She smiled the minute the girl came into view below her. At the bottom of the stairs she slid to a halt. ‘Hinata! Hello! You’re late.’

‘That’s my fault, I’m afraid,’ said the dark-haired girl’s mother.

‘Lets puts your things in my room.’

Hinata blushed quietly and was dragged, by a tightly-held hand, up the stairs.

‘Fourteen’s such a sweet age, isn’t it?’ said Sakura’s mother as the girls left.

‘Yes,’ the dark-haired woman stepped back through the door, ‘I’ll come by tomorrow to get her.’

Sakura loved sleepovers. And Hinata was becoming less shy, so they were more fun now. They were playing what they’d come up with last week – they could ask each other anything and had to tell the truth. It was funny.

‘Have you ever kissed anyone?’ It was Sakura’s question.

Hinata shook her head, blushing. She was always doing that. ‘Have you?’ she asked.

‘Um,’ Sakura frowned in thought.

Hinata giggled.

‘What’s funny?’

‘Looks like you can’t remember.’

‘I can, I can.’ Sakura sat up off the floor. ‘I’ve never kissed anyone. Naruto tried, but I hit him.’

Hinata turned a deeper shade of red.

‘All right, your turn.’

Hinata looked up, her blush fading. ‘Have you . . .?’

‘Have I what?’

‘I’m waiting-’ She quietened as Hinata put her hand on her stomach, pushing her fingers, her hand, into Sakura’s pyjama pants.

Hinata glanced at the girl’s face. Sakura’s cheeks were pink.

‘You’re blushing,’ the quiet girl said.

Hinata pushed her hand further in.

‘So are you,’ Sakura retorted.

Sakura’s eyes were closed, so the dark-haired girl watched her as her hand moved slowly, patiently, looking for small signs.

The legs relaxed against the carpet. Sakura no longer held her lips together, they parted – became darker and fuller. Then small intakes of breath went through them. The girl’s brow contracted.

Hinata could feel the clitoris stiffen and she moved faster – still gently. The girl felt Sakura’s hips move, then saw her back arch. She carried on – pressing, moving back and forth. Sakura’s face contorted and she gasped.

Her body froze for a moment in a groan before she fell back against the carpet. She looked up at Hinata with wide eyes. ‘What was that?’

Sakura fell back again and looked at the ceiling. After a moment she frowned. ‘What are you doing now?’

She became aware of light again. Everything was a pale haze.

She became aware of sound. Hinata giggled. Sakura heard material being brushed against itself and her room appeared.

‘You pulled the curtain off the railing,’ Hinata looked at her uncertainly after the Hyuuga had disentangled herself from the material as well, ‘Did I do something wrong?’

Sakura tried to get up onto her elbows, but decided lying back was a better idea. She was still breathing heavily. ‘I don’t know.’

‘You kind of gasped and then screamed.’

‘Did I? Does that happen every time?’

They looked at each other, puddles of confusion.

Sakura’s body felt as if it would sink into the floor. It was flooded with heat. She didn’t want to move. She wanted to hug something.

The girl giggled and curled around, putting her head in Hinata’s lap.

‘What’s funny?’

‘I feel like hugging you. Isn’t that weird?’

‘But you’re all right?’ Hinata’s face was full of concern.

Not knowing why, Sakura giggled again. ‘Yeah, I think so.’

‘Sakura?’ a deep voice came through the door.

‘Shit. Dad!’

Sakura jumped onto the bed, pulling covers over her bare legs.

The door opened.

‘Are you all right? I heard a scream.’

‘We’re fine dad. I . . . saw a rat.’

Her father frowned at the curtain lying in a heap on the floor.

‘A really big one,’ Sakura added.

After he had looked around for it, her father left, switching off the light.

Neither girl spoke for a moment.

‘Hinata?’

‘Yes?’

‘Can I see you try it? To see if it’s the same thing? It was very strange.’

‘It wasn’t sore?’

‘No no. I mean, it still feels good.’

‘Weird.’

‘I know.’

Sakura turned on her bedside lamp. ‘So?’

‘All right.’

After that Sakura decided to try what Hinata had done. Hinata didn’t scream, didn’t make nearly as much noise, so they tried on Sakura again . . .

The next day, Sakura’s mother called the fumigators, very embarrassed about all the rats.

8 months later.

The whispers always penetrated. After a month he’d heard them all, but day after day, week after week, he heard them repeated.

‘That poor boy.’

‘What he must have gone through.’

‘The murder of his parents.’

‘Under those circumstances.’

Sasuke rolled his eyes. Those circumstances. Nobody said it.

They’d all liked Itachi.

‘And then to be molested by his psychologist.’

‘That was never said outright – no accusations.’

‘But the man had to move, leave the city.’

Sasuke lay his head on his desk. He supposed it hadn’t been fair to seduce Dr. Shiranui.

He let out a sigh. But the man had insisted on giving a damn, on trying to find out why his brother had done it. He’d been one of only two people to guess Sasuke had been the reason.

His black eyes – emotionless for a moment – closed as he pushed down a wave of guilt.

The professor came in and began the lesson with hardly a glance in the boy’s direction. No one knew what to do with him anymore.

He did well, so they left him alone. He lived in a boarding school and hadn’t spoken to a soul in three days.

With half an ear Sasuke listened to the lesson, then phased it out in boredom.

He’d understood it the first time it had been given – which had been yesterday. What kind of idiots needed it said twice?

‘Ano?’ A voice broke in as the man finally finished, ‘Can you explain that again?’

Naruto. That kind of idiot, then.

Someone sniggered.

It was rare for Naruto to be at school, let alone behind his desk. Why did he have to pick today to show up?

A sarcastic comment rose, but the sixteen year old Uchiha decided he didn’t care enough to say anything. Listlessness.

Idly, Sasuke raised his head, his eyes running down Naruto’s arms, along his jaw, over that perpetually-moving, defined, mouth.

He hadn’t fucked Naruto yet.

Sasuke pursed his lips.

Should he rectify that?

He was finding it harder and harder to know what he felt like doing. He knew how he felt – detached, bored – he could always pinpoint what he was feeling. But things he wanted and wanted to go after were becoming tricky. He’d always hated apathy, but it was happening more and more.

Sasuke sighed. He’d start with the boy that day. As far as he remembered, he’d quit the rowing the team yesterday, so he had nothing else to do that afternoon.

‘Hey, Naruto.’

A blond head swung round and blue eyes came into view. The expression was tricky to read. There was surprise at being called, a guardedness – he wasn’t expecting anything good from the interaction – but for a second, before he had realised it was someone he knew, Naruto’s face had shown an openness Sasuke could hardly believe.

‘Yeah?’ Naruto asked, still walking, but backwards now.

‘Nah, forget it.’

Naruto shrugged and turned forward again.

Sasuke frowned. God, he was becoming so apathetic. What was he going to do now? He jumped over the portico railing, onto the grass, and was spotted. That meant that he ended up in . . .

‘Detention,’ said a bored voice. ‘It started at three.’ Professor Hatake pointed at the clock on the wall as he entered, a small book in hand. A few of the younger students strained to read the title before it was slipped into his satchel. ‘So be quiet.’

Most of the pupils looked up at the clock. Three forty-five.

The Professor moved to the front of the room. On the front desk lay a head - slender arms folded over the black hair. Without anyone seeing his movement, Hatake had the book out and brought it down on the desk with a shocking slap.

Sasuke lifted his head. His neck started the movement and finally an arm came up languidly, the elbow on the desk. He rested his chin in his palm.

‘Why is the Uchiha here again?’

Sasuke, his expression not visible to those behind, arched an eyebrow. ‘Forgot about the grass rule.’ He ran a slowly-moving finger along his bottom lip, onto his tongue. ‘I was distracted.’

‘Distraction isn’t an excuse.’

‘That’s what the head gardener said.’ The boy continued to look. ‘So now I’m here.’

‘Quiet, Sasuke. Detention is silent.’

The eyebrow shot up again and the boy smirked, ‘All the time?’

The Professor gave a warning glance.

‘What if you can’t help yourself sometimes?’ the boy persisted.

‘Sasuke.’ Hatake’s tone allowed no more impertinence.

Sasuke pursed his lips. His eyes narrowed.

Their gazes locked, Sasuke opened his bag and took out a coke.

‘No drinking.’

The boy ran a long finger around the top of the can, as if in indecision. Then he opened it – the loud hiss echoing in the silence.

Not one of the other students was working at this point. This was dangerously entertaining. No-one disobeyed Professor Hatake.

‘Uchiha Sasuke, will you come with me?’

They left, their footsteps sharp in the stillness of the room.

In the hallway Sasuke grinned, ‘Finally.’

Hatake turned to him, his face grim.

‘That took you a while.’

‘What was that about?’ the man cut in.

‘What do you think it was about?’ the boy ran his hand up Hatake’s shirt, pausing on each button. They heard footsteps and the man knocked his hand away.

Neither spoke until Kurenai had passed.

‘Don’t do that.’

The boy brought his hand up again, looking straight into the threatening glance aimed down at him. With half a smile on his face he undid the top button.

The Professor grabbed his wrist. ‘No.’

‘Kakashi . . .’ the boy said, suddenly solemn.

‘Yes?’

A second too late, Kakashi saw the mischievous smile break out on Sasuke’s face again. The boy’s hand went for his belt buckle.

The man grabbed the boy’s other arm. They stood there for a moment, still. ‘Stop that.’

‘I don’t want to.’

Another footstep was heard. The boy’s hands were dropped and they remained still as another person passed.

Then both sets of hands shot out again. Sasuke was caught before he could inflict any more damage to the man’s state of dress.

Kakashi tried to get the boy to move, and, finding it tricky, twisted him round so that he could hold Sasuke’s wrists behind the boy’s back and walk him ahead.

Sasuke laughed. ‘Your office?’

Kakashi glared.

Inside his office, the man came to a stop and closed the door. Sasuke stepped back until he just touched the man. He ran a hand, still held, along the top of the man’s pants.

Kakashi flipped Sasuke around and held him by the shoulders. The boy almost wriggled out the grasp, so he was pushed up against the wall.

‘Was that bad?’ the boy asked.

Kakashi’s eye flickered between Sasuke’s black irises. He sighed and let the boy go.

Sasuke pursed his lips, amused and annoyed, ‘It’s been bad enough before . . .’

Kakashi sat down. ‘Not today.’

‘Why not? Your wife’s away.’

Kakashi looked up from the leather armchair as Sasuke approached.

The boy knelt down in front of him, his eyebrows raised again, a hint of a smirk, ‘So what do I have to do now?’

The man thought the Uchicha had always found this too amusing, always used it to his advantage.

Sasuke looked around. ‘It’s trickier in your office than in the hall.’

‘What’s trickier?’

The boy walked to the desk, ‘. . . getting you wound up.’ He flipped through pages by the phone and eventually picked up the earpiece. He dialled a number.

‘Who?’

‘Mrs Hatake.’

In a flash, Kakashi was across the room. He leant over Sasuke, his arm running down the boy’s, his hand over his, holding the phone.

Sasuke pressed against him and the man closed his eyes. He took the phone.

‘Was that bad, then-?’

The last word was lost in a sharp intake of breath – he’d been slapped across the backside so hard his legs hit against the desk.

Kakashi let the phone fall to the ground and pressed his hand into the boy’s side, over his stomach, between the buttons, into his shirt. His other arm pressed the boy against him. He undid the pants, moved his hand round to the boy’s ass, slid between his legs. Sasuke breathed in, leant forward over the desk, his elbows crinkling onto the man’s papers.

The man pushed Sasuke’s feet together with his own, then pushed his penis between the boy’s thighs.

Sasuke rolled his eyes. ‘What’s this?’

‘You haven’t been-’

Sasuke leant forward to the arm on the desk. He bit into it. That would bloody well be bad enough. He pulled away and saw droplets of blood form in the teeth marks.

Kakashi pushed into him. Sasuke pressed into the desk, his hands gripping it, white with pressure. The man moved fast.

Sasuke lay across the armchair that night, wondering why he hadn’t left yet. Exhaustion kept him there. ‘It’s a strange game,’ he said idly, ‘that first one today.’ He lifted himself up briefly to pull a jersey over his bare chest. ‘You don’t even have a wife.’

Kakashi looked over to the boy. He hadn’t put his shirt back on yet. He scratched his collar bone. Sasuke liked seeing his arms move. Cocking his head to the side, the man wore a ‘you can take it or leave it’ expression. Nothing ever really riled him.

Kakashi wrote a few lines and picked up the next paper on the pile. ‘You did well on the Nero essay, but it’s not as good as the work you were handing in last year.’

‘So?’

The Professor paused, pen in hand. ‘Sasuke?’

‘Hn?’

‘I haven’t said anything about you and your brother because you asked me not to and I’m not sure the school psychologists would handle it well.’ Sasuke lay still, looking at the ceiling. ‘I don’t approve of what you did to Shirunai, but that’s partly his fault too. And I can understand you not putting a lot into you work for a while. But I can also see that things will start to get to you one day.’ The man put the pen down. ‘I was angry earlier because I can see that your sense of perspective is going. You’re becoming listless, caring less. I haven’t seen a smile reach your eyes for some time. Seeing a psychologist doesn’t help unless it’s voluntary, but I think you should consider it again.’

Sasuke turned his head to look at Kakashi. The boy’s eyes were guarded now.

‘I’m not going to interfere,’ Kakashi said with a neutral expression, ‘I just wanted you to hear it.’

The man had spoken like this before. Sasuke sat up and gave a single nod. ‘I’m off. Lights-out was ages ago.’

Sasuke walked through the grounds back to his room. The school was patrolled and the gardens provided many more shadows in which to hide. He stepped over a low wall and a branch brushed against his shoulder. The boy winced.

Kinky bastard. His shoulder, and his neck for that matter, would be sore for days. That collar . . . He’d had Sasuke on his knees at one point. The boy made a face in the dark.

Just fuck me again. Had Sasuke really said it? How could the man tease and withhold like that? The boy gave a pragmatic shrug, not one to complain, and carried on.

He pulled himself onto the branch of an oak when he heard someone patrolling. He watched a man pass beneath him and was about to swing down again when he saw movement in the room ahead – in one of the second story bedrooms.

Between the curtains, he saw Naruto walk from his cupboard to his bed with nothing on.

Sasuke raised his eyebrows in amusement.

Then the blond boy took his penis in his hand and began to move along it and down again.

Hn, thought Sasuke.

Naruto’s hand moved quickly at first, then slowed, then quickened again.

Interesting, the black-haired boy observed, with curtains open and everything.

The blond boy leant against the wall with one hand, his arm stretched out. Sweat – just a glisten – broke out on his body, down his back, thin muscles defined by it. His movement sped up. His face contorted.

That was it. Plain, simple, innocent. He was going to cum.

Sasuke swung down off the branch before he did, confused. There was an unfamiliar warmth, or a tension - something breaking through the detachment. For the first time in ages he didn’t know what he was feeling.

Summary:

This is a sasunaru at heart, although it gets confused along the way. There’s a dash of angst, some humour (hopefully), a good helping of fluff (later chapters), some detective-work, a little psychological trauma and confusion and even some action all mixed up in the romance. The rating’s there for a reason – please take head. The story’s very sweet (well, a little sweet, a little tragic) but there’s some scary stuff, some graphic stuff – many lemons, or limes, I don’t know what they’re all called – just to be on the safe side, imagine mountains of citrus. Part 1: Breaking in

A black-haired boy sat alone. A hand, pale enough to be seen, twisted, ground a cigarette into the stone pavement. He stood and walked towards the nearest streetlamp - barely visible because of the trees in the avenue – to glance at his watch. Twelve.

The corner of his mouth turned upwards. As Sasuke turned to face the house behind him, his black eyes took on a calculating look.

The wall was easy to climb – it was high, but ivy grew all along it. The electric wires running over the top presented a problem unless you knew that that one specific branch could support your weight even though it didn’t appear to be able to.

Breaking into this house was embarrassing, especially having to get from tree to tree with the new cameras they installed while he was away at school, but it was never very tricky.

As the boy lowered himself down to a third-story balcony, he grimaced – he’d skipped his flight up to Scotland this morning, which meant that once again he wouldn’t be there for the first day. He’d just deal with that when the shit hit the fan, there was much more to look forward to in this place than at bloody boarding school.

Without a sound, Uchiha Sasuke landed and reached for the handle on the French doors. There was no doubt about it swinging down silently – as it did now – in all the months since he’d had the guts to drop in, it had never been locked to him. And he’d never closed his own room.

He opened the door and saw an older boy in slacks sitting at a desk. His hair was tied back into a loose ponytail.

On the balcony, Sasuke felt every part of him grow warm, felt the familiar urgency growing. That back, those arms . . .

The ponytail was moved over a shoulder as the boy turned around at the sound of footsteps behind him. His eyes lit up and he closed his laptop.

‘Hey.’

The other rose and Sasuke stepped forward and was pressed against him. He felt hardness, heat. He always got a thrill from the knowledge that he aroused this person.

Hands undid his shirt, pulled it off. Sasuke tilted his head back, kissed the boy – a tongue in his mouth, wet, slow – and was lifted up. Sasuke wrapped his legs around and squeezed, was pushed against his pelvis, almost groaned. He was put on the desk and traced his tongue down the boy’s chest – licked around his nipple, bit it until he was pushed away.

The boy stepped back and looked at Sasuke, undid his jeans, pulled them off.

Sasuke’s hands clenched, his face contorted as the boy knelt down and licked, sucked, took into his mouth. The movement, the pressure . . . he wouldn’t be able to keep quiet. He grabbed the boy’s hair and pulled him back.

‘If we’re heard?’ the Sasuke managed.

‘You’re always worried and they’re always asleep.’

‘Wouldn’t it kill them?’

‘I know that, probably better than you.’

The boy stood and Sasuke attacked his belt, ‘Asleep?’ he asked.

‘Yes.’

In spite of a hand around his penis – pressure, speed – and a hand moving up his thigh, Sasuke unbuttoned the pants, slid them down . . .

‘Ahhh…’ he let out before he knew he’d made a sound.

The older boy pulled his fingers out, pushed them back in. Sasuke’s hand closed around the boy’s muscled arm, squeezing, scratching – skin turning white under the pressure.

It carried on until Sasuke grabbed the boy’s penis, pushed the hand away and both of them groaned.

The pressure, the feeling of having him inside. He didn’t know what to do with his body, he wanted to writhe in the warmth, in the uncontrollable feeling that went everywhere, each time he was pushed against the desk. He met each thrust. Sweat broke out, glistening on both of them. Sasuke lifted his head, his shoulders, up – he wanted to lick the sweat off between gasping breaths, wanted to bite.

The boy pulled out. ‘Not yet.’ His breathing was heavy. He stepped back.

Sasuke dropped off the desk to his knees and heard the boy emit a gasp as he brought it into his mouth, sucked and played with it until his head was pushed away. He looked up with a raised eyebrow, ‘Not yet?’

Without warning he was lifted up and slung over the boy’s shoulder.

‘Hey!’

Sasuke was dropped unceremoniously onto the bed and straddled. The older boy began to run his hand – fingers pushing – up from Sasuke’s thigh. Sasuke slapped the hand away, ‘What was that for?’

The boy brought his hand back and continued, up Sasuke’s chest, lifting his arm above his head. ‘Felt like it.’ He lifted the other arm up and held both there with one hand.

The boy took Sasuke into his mouth, his throat – a warmth that moved so slowly, so slowly, but which brought him almost agonisingly to . . .

‘Enough already, I’m going to-’ Ahhh . . . Sasuke gasped.

The boy stopped, again just in time.

‘Going to what?’ He smirked.

Sasuke glared. He tried to bring his arms down but glared again. How had he been tied up?

The boy started again.

Slowly, sweat dripping off him, his brow contracting, his mouth open in a silent groan, his arms straining against the rope, Sasuke managed:

‘I’m . . . going . . . to . . .’

The boy flipped Sasuke around onto his knees, pushed himself inside and thrust . . . and thrust.

Sasuke’s mouth was open, wet, gasping, his wrists burnt against the ropes, but he wanted the boy to go faster, faster.

Ahhh . . .

Urgency, tingling, grew all over his body . . . a pressure, a drive.

Sasuke thought he’d go mad – he couldn’t control his mouth, his lungs, the sounds . . .

Uhhh . . .

His body tensed and arched - the release, the explosion, and the slow, now-shuddering, continual thrusts into him. They came to a stop and both boys fell over to the side, able to do nothing but breathe.

When his heart no longer hammered in his chest, Sasuke twisted round, pulling the ponytail over the boy’s shoulder, ‘You mustn’t be sent away.’

The older boy raised his eyebrows.

Sasuke twisted completely round to face him, flicking hair out of his face, trying to conceal the excitement which flared up. ‘What does that mean? You’ve spoken to them?’

The older boy lay on his back and lit a cigarette. ‘You could definitely say I’ve worked something out. Spoke to them this morning.’

Black eyes widened for a fraction of a second. ‘And?’

‘And?’ said the older boy teasingly.

Now the eyes narrowed in challenge – Sasuke lifted himself in spite of the rope and sat with one leg on either side of other’s stomach. ‘And you-’ He was cut off as the other boy rose to kiss him – he waited until he had, then brought his teeth down on the bottom lip, ‘And you’re going to tell me right now.’

‘All right, all right – ow!’

Sasuke smirked. He’d drawn blood.

‘Seeing as I was accepted by every place I applied to, I can choose.’ He grinned. ‘Any of them.’

‘But they said Toudo or nothing else, and only after the-’

‘Must’ve changed their minds. So – England, Japan, America – living expenses, a living allowance – everything.’

‘No army, no conscription?’

The ponytail moved as he shook his head. ‘So, switch schools if you want – any of them would accept you under any circumstances. And they can’t argue if you’re expelled. You should be quite good at that by now.’

‘I’ve already got a plan.’ Sasuke pulled on the ropes. ‘I’m hungry.’

‘I’ll go the kitchen.’

‘You never do.’

‘I feel like it now, you stay here.’ He lifted an eyebrow – ‘you’re the one tied to the bed post, after all.’

‘Itachi!’

Uchiha Itachi flipped Sasuke over and got off the bed with a smile, ‘As good as you are, Sasuke-kun, I tied those ropes, so you’re going nowhere. And mom and dad mustn’t see you – you’re supposed to be miles away.’ He pointed to the open doors leading out onto the balcony, ‘Early tomorrow morning, you have to leave out of there without being seen.’

‘Itachi?’

‘Hm?’

‘They weren’t suspicious? Even with the letter that was sent home about us?’

His brother lifted an arm and leaned against the doorway, rings under his eyes, ‘I found it: it had nothing but suspicions and hearsay, and they didn’t want to believe it. Dad jumped on the idea that it was to discredit him politically.’

‘Brilliant.’

Iatchi moved away, ‘I’ll be back now.’

The boy couldn’t believe it. Father had been so set on sending Itachi to the army – while Sasuke would have to be at school. They went from the prospect of not seeing each other for three years to this!

Sasuke lay on the bed, bent one leg up and let cool summer air blow over him. He smiled. They wouldn’t be separated.

Itachi came back with lamb and dumplings and insisted, laughing, on feeding Sasuke until he got the ropes off himself.

The boy then ate ravenously. He kicked the plate off the bed and turned to his older brother, running a hand up one arm then the next.

‘So where should we go? Japan?’ Sasuke laughed as Itachi tried to bring his arms down, but felt the tight ropes.

‘I’m tired,’ Itachi said.

Ignoring him, Sasuke ran his hand up his brother’s leg to the very top of his thigh, shoved his fingers inside and watched with delight as Itachi became firm, lifted off his stomach.

‘You’ve said that before.’

Itachi let out a low gasp as Sasuke bent down and ran his tongue around the head, the shaft, brought it into his mouth, his throat. His brother shuddered and Sasuke let everything go. ‘Close.’

He straddled his brother’s stomach and kissed him – wet, now-soft, now-hard, the almost-tingling feeling that stayed as he pulled away. He brought his own penis to just in front of Itachi’s mouth. His brother leant forward. Sasuke’s back arched ever so slightly, involuntarily.

How did he do that? His world began to blur and Sasuke couldn’t keep himself from moving, thrusting – impossibly deep.

He drew himself back. With a mischievous glint in his eyes he stuck two fingers into himself. ‘You’d like to be doing this, wouldn’t you?’

His brother moved forward but the ropes held him.

‘Uh uh,’ he laughed, ‘I tied those.’

Sasuke grabbed his brother’s penis and lowered himself.

Uhhh . . . the discomfort, the pleasure, the feeling of inside, of struggling with control. He leant down and kissed, bit, moved faster, harder each time. Everything lost in the movement – again and again and again, ever more urgent. He felt his brother tense, groan and he grabbed himself . . .

In minutes Itachi’s breathing became regular. Sasuke moved aside and watched his back rise and fall. Noiselessly, he slipped out of the bed and crept to the door. He was thirsty and despite Itachi’s worry, he could be quiet enough not to be seen.

He walked down to the kitchen in the dark, pulling on jeans at the bottom of the stairs. The side of his foot brushed against a low object. The boy turned the light on and bent down to get a glass from the cupboard.

Out of the corner of his eye he saw something – just behind a counter - on the white tiles. He paused, still looking ahead, and wondered why his skin crawled.

He stood, glass in hand. He told himself he was being unreasonable – the hiding he and Itachi had been up to for the past year was obviously making him jump at anything. He turned the tap, watched the glass fill and reached for the light switch.

But before his hand pushed the switch down Sasuke drew it back. He turned and walked around the counter.

Sasuke stopped. His eyes were fixed to the floor - fixed on what lay there. Convulsively, they flickered over the second stretched-out figure.

Between them the tiles weren’t white.

Sasuke’s breathing stopped. His heart slowed. He stared.

The glass slipped from between his fingers. For a heartbeat he felt it fall – then he grabbed it out of the air. Water splashed out . . . flowing along the tiles slowly – mixing with the blood.

The youngest Uchiha, his heart now hammering, glanced upwards.

Sasuke’s mind always worked things out – anything in front of him was a puzzle he put together whether he liked it or not.

Right there, in the too-bright light, some part of him had to know something – whatever it meant, he had to know. He steeled himself.

He knelt down. His father was cold – his face, his chest. So was his mother.

Sasuke felt nausea rise. Itachi had come down less than an hour ago. Had gotten food. Must have stepped over them.

I spoke to them this morning. I sorted something out.

Sasuke ran outside, into air, out of . . .

He leant over a flower bed, clutched his stomach – and retched until he could taste bile, until he was too shaky to stand.

Itachi had been inside the whole day. Sasuke closed his eyes but saw the whole scene in his mind. His mother, face-up, his father, blood on the back of his head, arms outstretched. A cereal bowl in the blood.

I spoke to them this morning . . .

Sasuke walked into the garden, to the yard, pulled a shirt off the line and lifted himself over the wall. When he hit the ground on the other side he broke into a run.

He couldn’t go back into the house. His own house.

He ran. When he could no longer run he walked. Always away. He was in central London when the sun rose.

He sat down on a low wall running along the Thames.

Why had he sat?

He got up but realised he didn’t know where to go.

He sat on the ground and leant against the wall, his arms resting on his knees. He closed his eyes. A detached part of him said happy birthday. He’d turned sixteen.
